The 106 member team is made up of swimmers finishing in the top six of each Olympic event.<\/p>\n<p>A fifth of this group includes National Team rookies.\u00a0The Open Water National Team has twelve members.<\/p>\n<h3>Read more from USA Swimming here:<\/h3>\n<p>COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. \u2013 With 37 medalists from the 2016 Olympic Games headlining the roster, USA Swimming today announced the 106 members of the 2016-17 National Team.<\/p>\n<p>The complete USA Swimming National Team roster, which is comprised of the top six swimmers in each Olympic event, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1454&amp;Alias=Rainbow&amp;Lang=en\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId%3D1454%26Alias%3DRainbow%26Lang%3Den&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1473542749799000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF60I2MksS2xSxfChZwCgkqj0wo_Q\">can be found online here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQualifying for the USA Swimming National Team in an Olympic year is an impressive accomplishment, as every swimmer in the country is aiming to perform at their best at the Olympic Trials and beyond. This team represents the best of the best in the United States,\u201d said <strong>Frank Busch<\/strong>, USA Swimming National Team Director. \u201cThere is a great mix of veterans and talented newcomers on the 2016-17 National Team, and we look forward to building on the record-setting performances in Rio heading into the next Olympic quad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2016-17 USA Swimming National Team By the Numbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>106 National Team members (53 men; 53 women)<\/li>\n<li>31 states represented; California leads the way with 16 National Team members<\/li>\n<li>50-plus USA Swimming clubs represented<\/li>\n<li>37 medalists from the 2016 Olympic Games<\/li>\n<li>12 swimmers qualified for the National Team in three-plus events<\/li>\n<li>21 first-time National Team members<\/li>\n<li>8 members of the 2015-16 National Junior Team made the leap to National Team<\/li>\n<li>65 personal coaches of National Team athletes honored as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/_Rainbow\/Documents\/c95de515-886b-4903-98c6-d86f5ee071a4\/2016-2017%20National%20Team%20Coaches.pdf\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/_Rainbow\/Documents\/c95de515-886b-4903-98c6-d86f5ee071a4\/2016-2017%2520National%2520Team%2520Coaches.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1473542749799000&amp;usg=AFQjCNExlAV9H1N6lSx4ZFmN8mhY2pSWlg\">2016-17 National Team coaches<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2016-17 USA Swimming National Team features the top six athletes in each Olympic event from the combined results of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials \u2013 Swimming, 2016 Olympic Games and 2016 U.S. Open.<\/p>\n<p>Among the headliners of the 2016-17 USA Swimming National Team are <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> (Bethesda, Md.\/Nation\u2019s Capital Swim Club) and <strong>Michael Phelps (<\/strong>Baltimore, Md.\/North Baltimore Aquatic Club), who earned National Team status in three events each. Ledecky ranks as the top American in the women\u2019s 200-, 400- and 800-meter freestyle events, while Phelps was tops in the men\u2019s 100m fly, 200m fly and 200m IM.<\/p>\n<p>At the 2016 Olympic Games, Ledecky became the fourth American woman to win four gold medals at a single Olympics and became just the second woman to claim gold in the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle titles at the same Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>By again ranking as the most decorated athlete across all sports in Rio with six medals (five gold), Phelps extended his record-setting career totals to 28 total Olympic medals, including 23 gold, across five Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Making up the 12-member Open Water National Team are the 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers, as well as top finishers at the 2016 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships. Leading that group is\u00a0<strong>Haley Anderson <\/strong>(Granite Bay, Calif.\/Trojan Swim Club) and <strong>Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong> (Malibu, Calif.\/Team Santa Monica), who both placed fifth in the open water 10K in Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Benefits offered to USA Swimming National Team members include reimbursement for travel to USA Swimming Arena Pro Swim Series meets and training camp opportunities. Select athletes are eligible for monthly assistance and elite athlete health insurance.
