Tonight, his Chinese teammate\u00a0<strong>Tao Zheng\u00a0<\/strong>lowered that mark to a 1:10.84 to set a Paralympic and World Record and win gold. Jia settled for silver in 1:13.42. Bronze went to Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Iaroslav Semenenko\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:15.97.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100m Backstroke S6<\/h3>\n<p>The Chinese women then took the top two spots in the women&#8217;s S6 100 backstroke.\u00a0<strong>Lingling Song\u00a0<\/strong>edged teammate\u00a0<strong>Dong Lu\u00a0<\/strong>1:21.43 to 1:21.65. Song earned a new Paralympic and world record.\u00a0<strong>Oksana Khrul\u00a0<\/strong>of Ukraine\u00a0took home bronze (1:26.82).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400m Freestyle S8<\/h3>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Oliver Hynd\u00a0<\/strong>got to the wall first in another World Record time of 4:21.89. Chinese teammates\u00a0<strong>Haijiao Xu\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Yinan Wang\u00a0<\/strong>completed the podium in 4:25.65 and 4:32.78.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 400m Freestyle S8<\/h3>\n<p>The impressive record setting streak continued into the women&#8217;s event. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lakeisha Patterson\u00a0<\/strong>rewrote the record books with a 4:40.33.\u00a0<strong>Jessica Long\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States\u00a0took home silver with a 4:47.82.\u00a0<strong>Stephanie Millward\u00a0<\/strong>secured bronze in 4:49.49.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 100m Breaststroke SB9<\/h3>\n<p>In the next event, the record setting streak came to an end, but a different nation found its way to the top of the medal stand. South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kevin Paul\u00a0<\/strong>won gold with a 1:04.86. In the silver medal spot was\u00a0<strong>Denys Dubrov\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:05.10.\u00a0<strong>Duncan Van Haaren\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands touched in 1:06.54 for bronze.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100m Breaststroke SB9<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lisa Kruger\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands raced to Paralympic gold with a 1:15.49. Her teammate\u00a0<strong>Chantalle Zuderveld\u00a0<\/strong>joined her on the podium, placing third in 1:17.01.\u00a0<strong>Harriet Lee\u00a0<\/strong>of Great Britain won silver with a 1:16.87.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 100m Freestyle S4<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Gi Seong Jo\u00a0<\/strong>of Korea sprinted away from the field to take gold in 1:23.36. At the 50 meter mark, China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhipeng Jin\u00a0<\/strong>had a half second lead on the Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Michael Schoenmaker\u00a0<\/strong>and he held on to take silver- 1:26.05 to 1:26.87. Just .01 behind, France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>David Smetanine\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth with a 1:26.88.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100m Freestyle S3<\/h3>\n<p>Kazahstan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zulfiya Gabidullina\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the S3 women&#8217;s 100 freestyle and finished in Paralympic and world record time of 1:30.07. China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Qiuping Peng\u00a0<\/strong>and Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Olga Sviderska\u00a0<\/strong>had a tight battle for silver. Peng got to the wall first in 1:34.71, ahead of Sviderska&#8217;s 1:34.86.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 100m Backstroke S14<\/h3>\n<p>This morning\u00a0Netherlands\u2019 <strong>Marc Evers<\/strong> raced to a Paralympic record of 1:00.97. Tonight he improved on that time with a 1:00.63. However, that only earned him silver.\u00a0<strong>In Kook Lee\u00a0<\/strong>of Korea cracked the minute barrier and with a gold medal time and a new Paralympic record of 59.82.\u00a0<strong>Takuya Tsugawa\u00a0<\/strong>of Japan earned bronze in 1:03.42.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100m Backstroke S14<\/h3>\n<p>This morning\u00a0<strong>Marlou Van Der Kulk\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands took down\u00a0<strong>Bethany Firth<\/strong>&#8216;s Paralympic record, posting a 1:07.23. Firth\u00a0took it back in the next heat with a 1:04.53. Tonight Firth affirmed her place at the top with a Paralympic and World Record finish of 1:04.05.<\/p>\n<p>Van Der Kulk also swam faster, touching in 1:06.33 for silver. The bronze went to Firth&#8217;s British teammate\u00a0<strong>Jessica-Jane Applegate\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:08.67.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 100m Butterfly S13<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ihar Boki\u00a0<\/strong>of Belarus was dominant as he broke his own Paralympic and World records, touching in 53.85. Teammates from Uzbekistan,\u00a0<strong>Kirill Pankov\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Muzaffar Tursunkhujaev\u00a0<\/strong>earned silver and bronze in 56.84 and 57.26.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100m Butterfly S13<\/h3>\n<p>After prelims, it still seemed as though it could be anybody&#8217;s race.\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Meyers\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States used a strong second 50 to power her way to gold. Meyers touched in a new Paralympic and World Record time of 1:03.25.<\/p>\n<p>Uzbekistan teammates once again completed the podium. For the women it was\u00a0<strong>Muslima Odilova\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.92) and\u00a0<strong>Fotimakhon Amilova\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.93) touching just .01 apart and earning silver and bronze.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 200m Freestyle S5<\/h3>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Dias\u00a0<\/strong>swam away from the field and took gold in a 2:27.88. The United States&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Roy Perkins\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed silver with a 2:38.56. Bronze went to\u00a0<strong>Andrew Mullen\u00a0<\/strong>of Great Britain with a 2:40.65.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 200m Freestyle S5<\/h3>\n<p>The podium swimmers all finished under three minutes tonight.<strong> Li Zhang\u00a0<\/strong>of China stopped the clock in 2:48.33 to win gold. Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Teresa Perales\u00a0<\/strong>snagged silver with a 2:50.91. Bronze went to Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Louise Rung\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:07.31.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 100m Backstroke S7<\/h3>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ievgenii Bogodaiko\u00a0<\/strong>edged world record holder\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Fox\u00a0<\/strong>of Great Britain 1:10.55 to 1:10.78 to claim gold. Bronze went to\u00a0<strong>Italo Pereira\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:12.48.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100m Backstroke S7<\/h3>\n<p>Chinese teammates\u00a0<strong>Liting Ke\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ying Zhang\u00a0<\/strong>came out on top of a very tight race in the S7 women&#8217;s 100 backstroke. Ke got her hand to the wall first in 1:23.06.
