2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Day 2 Finals – Results<\/a><\/p>\nWomen’s 100 Free FINAL:<\/h3>\n
Isabel Ivey<\/strong> of the USA and\u00a0Rebecca Smith<\/strong> of Canada held a tight race all the way to the finish in finals of the women’s 100 free. Ivey succeeded in holding her place atop the leaderboard, stopping the clock at a 54.95 to be the only athlete under the 55-second mark. Smith settled for second with a time of 55.06, scratching .49 seconds off her prelims time of 55.55.<\/p>\nChina’s\u00a0Liu Zixuan\u00a0<\/strong>put up a valiant fight but faded just slightly down the final stretch to third and a time of 55.42.<\/p>\nAustralia’s\u00a0Gemma Cooney\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a final time of 55.86 for fourth overall, while\u00a0Grace Ariola\u00a0<\/strong>of the USA picked up fifth with a 55.93.<\/p>\nSayuki Ouchi<\/strong> of Japan finished sixth overall with a 56.30, just ahead of Canada’s\u00a0Kayla Sanchez<\/strong> and her 56.89.<\/p>\nTang Yuting<\/strong> of China rounded out the top eight with a 57.22.<\/p>\nMen’s 100 Free FINAL:<\/h3>\n
After a dominating performance in prelims, where he succeeded in setting a new Junior Pan Pacs meet record in the 100 free,\u00a0Jack Cartwright<\/strong> of Australia continued to dominate with a top performance in finals. Cartwright stopped the clock at a 49.14, adding just slightly to his prelims swim of 48.91.<\/p>\nThe USA’s\u00a0Cameron Craig<\/strong> maintained his spot at second with a time of 49.41, while Australia’s\u00a0Louis Townsend<\/strong> posted the only other sub-50 second swim to grab third with a 49.58.<\/p>\nDaniel Krueger<\/strong> of the USA finished fourth overall with a 50.21, just ahead of Japan’s\u00a0Juran Mizohata’s\u00a0<\/strong>50.38.<\/p>\nThe Canadian duo of\u00a0Stephen Calkins\u00a0<\/strong>(51.31) and\u00a0Ian MacKinnon\u00a0<\/strong>(51.34) finished sixth and seventh respectively.<\/p>\nEighth was picked up by\u00a0Darren Chua<\/strong> and his time of 52.08.<\/p>\nWomen’s 100 Breast FINAL:<\/h3>\n
The USA’s Zoe Bartel<\/strong> and\u00a0Allie Raab<\/strong>\u00a0delivered a 1-2 punch in finals of the women’s 100 breaststroke, but not without some challenge from Canada’s\u00a0Kelsey Wog<\/strong>.<\/p>\nBartel, who this morning topped prelims with a meet record-breaking swim of 1:07.82, held onto her spot at the top of the podium with a final 1:07.87, just barely missing her new record.<\/p>\n
Teammate Raab, who also swam underneath the former record this morning, touched a close second with a 1:07.95, just ahead of Wog and her time of 1:08.02.<\/p>\n
Japan’s\u00a0Shiori Asaba<\/strong> grabbed fourth overall with a time of 1:10.04, while Canada’s\u00a0Faith Knelson\u00a0<\/strong>was fifth with a 1:10.37.<\/p>\nAustralia’s\u00a0Sarah Beale<\/strong> turned in a time of 1:11.01 for sixth and Japan’s\u00a0Erin Tsuda<\/strong> took seventh with a 1:11.70.<\/p>\nChristie Chue<\/strong> of Singapore picked up eighth with a final time of 1:12.07.<\/p>\nMen’s 100 Breast FINAL:<\/h3>\n
The men’s 100 breaststroke final was highlighted by some very close finishes as the USA’s\u00a0Jacob Montague<\/strong> and\u00a0Reece Whitley,\u00a0<\/strong>along with Australia’s Matthew Wilson<\/strong>, battled for the podium spots.<\/p>\nMontague topped the competition to secure the gold with a final time of 1:00.68, shaving .13 seconds off his prelims swim of 1:00.81.<\/p>\n
Wilson got his hand to the wall just before Whitley to grab silver with a 1:00.91 over Whitley’s 1:00.95.<\/p>\n
Australia’s\u00a0Daniel Dave<\/strong> and China’s\u00a0Sun Jiajun\u00a0<\/strong>kept a tight race for fourth and fifth, posting times .07 seconds apart. Cave finished with a 1:01.76 for fourth over Sun’s 1:01.83.<\/p>\nCanada’s\u00a0Warren Mayer<\/strong> picked up sixth with a time of 1:02.02, just ahead of the Japanese duo of\u00a0Yu Hanaguruma<\/strong> (1:02.41) and\u00a0Daichi Inagaki<\/strong> (1:02.72).<\/p>\nWomen’s 400 IM FINAL:<\/h3>\n
Sarah Darcel\u00a0<\/strong>of Canada charged to through a powerful breaststroke leg in finals of the women’s 400 IM to secure the win. Darrell stopped the clock at a 4:39.83 holding off a strong freestyle leg from the USA’s\u00a0Brooke Forde.<\/strong> Forde finished second with a final time of 4:40.98.<\/p>\nCanada and the USA picked up third and fourth respectively with\u00a0Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> rounding out the podium with a 4:$2.49.\u00a0Margaret Aroesty\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth overall with a time of 4:44.26.<\/p>\nThe Japanese duo of\u00a0Anna Sasaki<\/strong> and\u00a0Miku Kojima\u00a0<\/strong>picked up fifth and sixth with times of 4:47.57 and 4:51.60 respectively.<\/p>\nAustralia’s\u00a0Francesca Fitzhenry\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 4:52.78 for seventh, ahead of New Zealand’s\u00a0Mya Rasmussen’s\u00a0<\/strong>4:54.85.<\/p>\nMen’s 400 IM FINAL:<\/h3>\n
The USA delivered another 1-2 punch in finals of the men’s 400 IM, led by\u00a0Sean Grieshop<\/strong>. Grieshop jumped to an early lead and never looked back, holding off the competition to finish first with a time of 4:16.05.<\/p>\nTeammate\u00a0Charlie Swanson<\/strong> battled a strong breaststroke leg from Japan’s\u00a0Tomoya Takeuchi<\/strong> but was able to build some distance in the freestyle leg to nab second with a 4:17.37. Takeuchi picked up third with a final time of 4:19.13.<\/p>\nCanada’s\u00a0Josh Zakala<\/strong> finished fourth overall with a time of 4:20.95, followed by Australia’s\u00a0David Schlicht’s<\/strong> 4:25.64.<\/p>\nJacob Vincent<\/strong> of Australia and\u00a0Tomoki Hatsugai<\/strong> of Japan delivered almost matching times for sixth and seventh. Vincent touched in a 4:27.83 over Hatsugai’s 4:27.84.<\/p>\nCanada’s\u00a0Ryan Telford<\/strong> rounded out the top eight with a final 4:29.33.<\/p>\nWomen’s 4×200 Free Relay:<\/h3>\n
The USA relay team of\u00a0Lauren Pitzer<\/strong>,\u00a0Courtney Harnish<\/strong>,\u00a0Brooke Forde<\/strong> (2:01.44), and\u00a0Isabel Ivey<\/strong> (2:00.01) delivered a combined time of 8:02.88 to claim gold in the women’s 800 free relay.<\/p>\nAustralia’s ‘A’ relay team of\u00a0Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> (2:00.13),\u00a0Gemma Cooney\u00a0<\/strong>(2:01.52),\u00a0Mikayla Messer<\/strong> (2:02.69), and\u00a0Laura Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(2:01.09) picked up second with a final time of 8:05.43.<\/p>\nKarin Takemura<\/strong> (2:01.72),\u00a0Natsumi Shibata<\/strong> (2:03.03),\u00a0Anna Sasaki<\/strong> (2:03.49), and\u00a0Rio Shirai<\/strong> (1:59.88) of Japan turned in a combined time of 8:08.12 for the bronze medal.<\/p>\nCanada finished fourth overall with a time of 8:09.17, ahead of China’s 8:15.64.<\/p>\n
Singapore (8:23.94), New Zealand (8:29.61), and Mexico (8:36.00) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n
The USA, Canada, Japan, and Singapore each had ‘B’ relays swim as well, with the USA and Canada posting times that would’ve earned them fourth and sixth respectively could more than the ‘A’ relay score.<\/p>\n
Men’s 4×200 Free Relay:<\/h3>\n
The men’s 800 free relay proved to be a much closer race with the top four teams sticking close to one another for the majority of the race.<\/p>\n
Australia’s\u00a0Louis Townsend\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.29),\u00a0Elijah Winnington<\/strong> (1:50.80),\u00a0Daniel Jacobson<\/strong> (1:51.11), and\u00a0Jack Cartwright\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.21) delivered a combined time of 7:20.41 to finish first and claim the gold medal.<\/p>\nPicking up second and the silver was\u00a0Trey Freeman\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.36),\u00a0Drew Kibler<\/strong> (1:49.87), Andrew Abruzzo<\/strong> (1:51.74), and\u00a0Sean Grieshop\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.76) with a final time of 7:22.73.<\/p>\nCanada’s Colin Gilbert<\/strong> (1:51.46),\u00a0Ian MacKinnon<\/strong>,\u00a0Brian Palaschuk<\/strong>, and\u00a0Josh Zakala<\/strong> (1:50.41) grabbed third with a final 7:23.85.<\/p>\nFourth was claimed by Japan in a time of 7:24.68, while Mexico (7:40.95) and Singapore (7:47.93) rounded out the top finishers at fifth and sixth respectively.<\/p>\n
