The start of a new season also brings\u00a0a new academic year. The dedication required\u00a0for swimming and academics &#8211; as well as co-curriculars and social life &#8211; can be difficult to manage.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three ways to balance your swim life with your academic life and avoid unnecessary stress.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. Rather than\u00a0attempting to keep track of everything in your head, write it down. Got a big prelim-final meet coming up? Take sometime the prior weekend to work on any homework that is due around the time of your meet. Even though\u00a0it may seem okay to text your friend while studying for tomorrow&#8217;s quiz, research shows that this is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/education-33047927\" target=\"_blank\">less effective<\/a>\u00a0than studying without a phone.\u00a0Furthermore, it wastes time.<\/p>\n<p>Miami University swimmer <strong>Chase Bettner<\/strong> agrees. &#8220;If I have my phone out when I&#8217;m doing homework or studying, I usually get distracted by some app or social media,&#8221; Bettner said. &#8220;Then\u00a0I&#8217;ve wasted 30 minutes and I could have been doing something much more productive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Between class and practices twice a day, there are minimal windows of opportunity to get school work done.
