{"id":218959,"date":"2016-08-19T10:20:55","date_gmt":"2016-08-19T17:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=218959"},"modified":"2016-08-19T10:20:55","modified_gmt":"2016-08-19T17:20:55","slug":"china-launches-investigation-into-chen-xinyis-positive-doping-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/china-launches-investigation-into-chen-xinyis-positive-doping-test\/","title":{"rendered":"China Launches Investigation Into Chen Xinyi&#8217;s Positive Doping Test; Xinyi Expelled From Rio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One week after the confirmation of\u00a0<strong>Chen Xinyi&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>positive doping test, the Chinese swimmer has been expelled from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with China launching a full investigation.<\/p>\n<p>It was announced on August 12th that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hydrochlorothiazide-identified-as-substance-in-chen-xinyis-positive-doping-test\/\" target=\"_blank\">Xinyi tested positive<\/a> for the substance hydrochlorothiazide, a drug that <a href=\"http:\/\/list.wada-ama.org\/list\/s5-diuretics-and-other-masking-agents\/#hydrochlorothiazide\" target=\"_blank\">is listed<\/a> on WADA&#8217;s banned substances under &#8220;S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents,&#8221; and was disqualified for the remainder of the Olympic Games by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese Olympic delegation provided a statement to\u00a0<em>Xinhua News Agency<\/em>, noting &#8220;The Chinese Olympic delegation has demanded the Chinese swimming body to start a full investigation into the matter in order to clarify the facts and seek out the truth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement continued by stating, &#8220;Although we have been making progress in battling performance-enhancing drugs, this case once again serves as a warning that anti-doping campaign is a complicated and formidable task and needs longtime and consistent efforts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CAS has moved the responsibility of the Xinyi&#8217;s punishment to FINA following the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Xinyi finished fourth in the women&#8217;s 100 fly, missing out on a spot on the podium by .09 seconds.
