THE UNIVERSITY of Virginia men&#39;s and women&#39;s swimming and diving teams closed out the dual meet portion of their respective<br \/>\nschedules with victories over Maryland Saturday afternoon (February 3) at the Campus Recreation Center Natatorium.  <\/p>\n<p>The 11th-ranked Virginia men defeated the Terrapins 162.5-78.5, while the 12th-ranked Cavalier women<br \/>\nregistered a 137-106 victory over 16th-ranked Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>The 11th ranked Virginia men improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the ACC by winning 10 of 13 events in the meet.  With the loss, Maryland falls to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the ACC.  <\/p>\n<p>UVa senior Jamie Grimes (Olney, Md.\/Sherwood) set a new pool record by winning the 1000 freestyle with a<br \/>\ntime of 9:06.08.  He led a top three UVa sweep as Dan DeMarco (Great Neck, N.Y.\/Great Neck South) was second (9:17.80) and Michael Fuller (Richmond, Va.\/Mills Godwin) was third (9:18.37).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Ian Prichard (Ventura, Calif.\/Buena) won the 200 and 500 freestyles.  Prichard clocked a time of 1:40.26 in winning the 200 free and 4:29.17 in taking the top spot in the 500 free.  Grimes was second in the<br \/>\n500 free with a time of 4:29.77.  Prichard also helped UVa win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:05.40 by swimming the second leg.  Jon Haag (Ashland, Ohio\/<br \/>\nAshland), Troy Johnson (St. George,Utah\/Dixie), and  Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va.\/Bolles School) swam the other legs on the relay.  <\/p>\n<p>Johnson also anchored Virginia&#39;s winning 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:22.05.  Chris Mousetis (Newport News, Va.\/Woodside), Jon Baird (Nashville,<br \/>\nTenn.\/Montgomery Bell Academy), and Matt Lee (Munster,<br \/>\nInd.\/Munster) swam legs on the 400 medley relay.  <\/p>\n<p>Mousetis also won the 200 backstroke (1:49.83) and was second in the 200 individual medley (1:52.26). Guy Yimsomruay (Bangkok, Thailand\/Germantown Academy) won 200 IM in 1:51.35 and was second in the 200 back (1:50.49).  Anderson, Dan Zurowski (Woodbridge, Va.\/ Bishop Ireton), and Gary Marshall (Bartlesville, Okla.\/Bartlesville) rounded out UVa&#39;s event<br \/>\nwinners.  Anderson touched in 45.63 in winning the 100 free.  Zurowski won the 200 butterfly in 1:48.86, while Marshall led a top three UVa sweep in the 200 breaststroke with a winning time of 2:03.27.<\/p>\n<p>The 12th-ranked Virginia women improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the ACC with a 137-106 victory over 16th-ranked Maryland (9-3, 2-2 ACC).  UVa won 7 of 13 events.  Second-year Cara Lane (Charlotte, S.C.\/<br \/>\nProvidence) led the Cavaliers with a pair of impressive victories.  Lane set the pool record in<br \/>\nwinning the 1000 free with a time of 9:47.72 in leading a top three UVa sweep.  She also won the 500 free in 4:50.82 and finished second to teammate Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla.\/Trinity Prep) in the 200 butterfly.  Lane posted a time of 2:00.80, while Dykehouse won in 2:00.68.  Dykehouse also won the 200 free in 1:49.94.  <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia\/Trinity Prep) was runner-up to Lane in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.47, and also won the 200 IM with a time of<br \/>\n2:04.79.  Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del.\/St. Mark&#39;s) rounded out Virginia&#39;s individual event winners as she won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.56.  The Cavaliers also won the 400 freestyle relay with a<br \/>\nseason-best time of 3:26.74.  Megan Roesch (Columbia, Md.\/WildeLake), Dykehouse, Lisa Favreau (Alamo, Calif.\/Monte Vista), and Jenna Bridges (Jacksonville, Fla.\/Bolles School) each swam a leg on the winning relay.  Bridges also placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.61, while Roesch was second in the 50 free (23.93).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga.\/Marist School) was second in the 1000 free (10:01.35), as well as the 200 breaststroke (2:21.79), while Quinn Amesbury (Vienna, Va.\/James Madison) was second in the 200 back (2:06.68).<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia women&#39;s swimming and diving team return to action February 15-17 when it hosts the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.  Prelims begin at 11:00 a.m. each day and finals commence at 7:00 p.m.  Admission is free.
