THE first night of action at the YMCA Long Course Championships held in College Park, Md., featured the 1500 freestyles.<\/p>\n<p>Middle Tyger&#39;s Laura Simon won the women&#39;s 1500 free in a meet record time of 16:59.47.  The performance wiped out the 17:02.80 set by E. Ballenger or Spartanburg back in 1999.  Winston-Salem&#39;s Kelly Ann Baird placed second in 17:05.22, while West Shore&#39;s Carly Munchel finished third in 17:08.59.<\/p>\n<p>South Family&#39;s Ty Perkins captured the men&#39;s 1500 free in 15:59.42. Wilton&#39;s Robby Harder touched second in 16:13.37, while North Shore&#39;s Tim Bouvier placed third in 16:20.15.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, July 27.
