Americans <strong>Michael Hixon<\/strong> and <strong>Kristian Ipsen<\/strong> will face off against the word&#8217;s best.<\/p>\n<p>Hixon recently won a surprise silver medal with synchro partner <strong>Sam Dorman.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Diver <strong>Jack Laugher\u00a0<\/strong>(GBR) and\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Cao Yuan<\/strong> (CHN) are also coming off of gold and bronze medals, respectively, in synchro at this olympics.\u00a0Ipsen<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>holds his own bronze medal from synchronized springboard last year, where he competed with<strong> Troy Dumais<\/strong>. All of these men will be seeking individual Olympic glory.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year Ipsen\u00a0came in third\u00a0on three meter\u00a0at the FINA diving World Cup, and then he\u00a0won springboard at\u00a0U.S. team trials by over 67\u00a0points. At the world cup, he finished less than\u00a0two points behind Jamaican diver <strong>Yona Knight-Wisdom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Knight-Wisdon trains in the U.K. with Laugher, but is qualified for the Olympics as the first male diver from Jamaica, or any Caribbean island. Back in 2014, he was Jamaica&#8217;s first commonwealth games\u00a0diver, where he came in eleventh on three meter. If Knight-Wisdom medals, he will have won the only medal outside of track and field events with the exception of one cycling medal from 1980.<\/p>\n<p>Other competitors in contention include <strong>Rommel Pacheco<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>who\u00a0will be competing for Mexico and is coming off of a win at the FINA world cup.
