{"id":217952,"date":"2016-08-12T09:46:40","date_gmt":"2016-08-12T16:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=217952"},"modified":"2016-08-12T12:36:24","modified_gmt":"2016-08-12T19:36:24","slug":"pernille-blume-posts-fastest-50-freestyle-prelims-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pernille-blume-posts-fastest-50-freestyle-prelims-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Pernille Blume Posts Fastest 50 Freestyle Prelims Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>of Denmark put together the fastest 50 freestyle this morning in 24.23.\u00a0<strong>Francesca Halsall\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second for tonight&#8217;s 50 freestyle semifinal in 24.26, and Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Aliksandra Herasimenia\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 24.42 this morning.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing fourth in the 100 freestyle last night Australian\u00a0<strong>Bronte Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>was the fourth fastest in prelims with a 24.45.<\/p>\n<p>Defending gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowindjojo\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands\u00a0raced next to fellow 100 freestyle finalist\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>of the USA. Weitzeil had the upper hand this morning, finishing in 24.48. Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottesen\u00a0<\/strong>posted the same time a heat later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong>\u00a0of the USA blew by Australia&#8217;s <strong>Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>in the final 25 meters of Thursday night&#8217;s 100 free final. Swimming side by side in the second to last heat of this morning&#8217;s 50, Campbell was faster, qualifying seventh with a 24.52.<\/p>\n<p>Kromowindjojo tied Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chantal van Landegham\u00a0<\/strong>with a 24.57 for the eighth seed in tonight&#8217;s semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>It was no surprise to see van Landeghem riding an emotional high after watching teammate\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak\u00a0<\/strong>tie Manuel for gold in the 100 free, and she swam off that adrenaline in this race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had so much inspiration watching Penny last night, and I think that really helped me come in this morning and really just try to throw down my best race possible,&#8221; van Landeghem said. &#8220;We were watching on TV back in the village, and we all started screaming. There were tears.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Last night&#8217;s bronze medalist\u00a0<strong>Sarah <\/strong><strong>Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>of Sweden was tenth this morning with a 24.66. Her teammate\u00a0<strong>Therese Alshammar\u00a0<\/strong>placed 12th in 24.73. Slipping between the two was Manuel in 24.71.<\/p>\n<p>In heat nine,\u00a0<strong>Inge Dekker<\/strong>\u00a0of the Netherlands<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a 24.77 to make semifinals.\u00a0<strong>Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace\u00a0<\/strong>of the Bahamas\u00a0and Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dorthea Brandt\u00a0<\/strong>made it a three way tie with Dekker.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>\u00a0(24.82) completes tonight&#8217;s semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>After questions over if she would swim, China&#8217;s Chen Xinyi\u00a0did
