Competition begins at 1 p.m. local time (12 p.m. EST\/9 a.m. PST) Hit refresh for all the latest coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Heat sheets are available\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/swimmingworld.azureedge.net\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Day-7-Prelims-Heats.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scheduled Events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Women\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/li>\n<li>Men\u2019s 1500 Freestyle<\/li>\n<li>Women\u2019s 4\u00d7100 Medley Relay<\/li>\n<li>Men\u2019s 4\u00d7100 Medley Relay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>of Denmark put together the fastest 50 freestyle this morning in 24.23.\u00a0<strong>Francesca Halsall\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second for tonight&#8217;s 50 freestyle semifinal in 24.26.\u00a0Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Aliksandra Herasimenia\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock in 24.42 this morning.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing fourth in the 100 freestyle last night Australian\u00a0<strong>Bronte Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>was the fourth fastest in prelims with a 24.45.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands&#8217; Olympic record holder\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowindjojo\u00a0<\/strong>raced next to fellow 100 freestyle finalist\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>of the USA. Weitzeil had the upper hand this morning, finishing in 24.48. Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottesen\u00a0<\/strong>posted the same time a heat later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong>\u00a0of the USA blew by Australia&#8217;s <strong>Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>in the final 25 meters of last night&#8217;s 100. Swimming side by side in the second to last heat of this morning&#8217;s 50 Campbell was faster, qualifying seventh with a 24.52.<\/p>\n<p>Kromowindjojo tied Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chantal Van Landegham\u00a0<\/strong>with a 24.57 for the eighth seed in tonight&#8217;s semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>Last night&#8217;s bronze medalist\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>of Sweden was tenth this morning with a 24.66. Her teammate\u00a0<strong>Therese Alshammar\u00a0<\/strong>placed 12th in 24.73. Slipping between the two was Manuel in 24.71.<\/p>\n<p>In heat nine,\u00a0<strong>Inge Dekker<\/strong>\u00a0of the Netherlands<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a 24.77 to make semifinals.\u00a0<strong>Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace\u00a0<\/strong>of the Bahamas\u00a0and Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dorthea Brandt\u00a0<\/strong>made it a three way tie with Dekker.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>\u00a0(24.82) completes tonight&#8217;s semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>After questions over if she would swim, China&#8217;s Chen Xinyi\u00a0did not race after news of her positive doping test.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 1500 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Gregorio Paltrinieri\u00a0<\/strong>of Italy, the owner of the fastest time in the world this year ,was also the fastest in this morning&#8217;s 1500 freestyle prelims. He touched in 14:44.51. The United States&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Connor Jaeger\u00a0<\/strong>separated himself from the field with Paltrinieri and finished second overall in 14:45.74.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong>, the first US swimmer to qualify for pool and open water Olympic swimming, qualified third in 14:48.23.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s current distance leader and the owner of the second fastest time in the world this year,\u00a0<strong>Mack Horton,\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 14:48.47 for fourth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gabriele Detti\u00a0<\/strong>of Italy and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Damien Joly\u00a0<\/strong>swam times of 14:48.68 and 14:48.90 will be seeded fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Cochrane\u00a0<\/strong>of Canada will be seeded seventh and\u00a0<strong>Henrik Christiansen\u00a0<\/strong>of Norway is eighth in 14:55.50.<\/p>\n<p>World record holder\u00a0<strong>Sun Yang\u00a0<\/strong>of China fell well behind the field, finishing 16th overall with a 15:01.97. Some reports on social media suggested he may be ill.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 4&#215;100 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>The United States dominated the competition this morning and took the top seed for finals in the\u00a0women&#8217;s 4&#215;100 medley relay.\u00a0<strong>Olivia Smoliga\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 59.57 on the backstroke leg.\u00a0<strong>Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>had a very safe start and registered a 1:04.93.\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell\u00a0<\/strong>(56.47), and\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>(53.70) brought the team home to a 3:54.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kylie Massee\u00a0<\/strong>led off the Canadian relay in a new 100 backstroke national record of 58.66. She was followed by\u00a0<strong>Rachel Nicol\u00a0<\/strong>(1:06.97),\u00a0<strong>Noemie Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>(57.66), and\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck\u00a0<\/strong>(53.51). The team posted a 3:56.80 to win the first heat and return to finals in second.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s team of\u00a0<strong>Mie Nielsen\u00a0<\/strong>(59.48),\u00a0<strong>Rikke Moller Pedersen\u00a0<\/strong>(1:06.88),\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottsen\u00a0<\/strong>(57.38), and\u00a0<strong>Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>(53.24) touched in 3:56.98 for third overall.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian team as fourth this morning in 3:57.44 ahead of the Australians in 3:57.80. The Chinese (3:58.23), Italians (3:59.09), and British (3:59.34) also earned lanes in the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 4&#215;100 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Chris Walker-Hebborn\u00a0<\/strong>(53.68),\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>(57.49),\u00a0<strong>James Guy\u00a0<\/strong>(51.48), and\u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(47.82) led the way for Great Britain with a 3:30.47.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Plummer\u00a0<\/strong>(52.70),\u00a0<strong>Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>(59.51),\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>(51.88), and\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>(47.74) touched in 3:31.83 for the Americans this morning.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese team of <strong>Ryosuke Irie\u00a0<\/strong>(53.7),\u00a0<strong>Yasuhiro Koseki\u00a0<\/strong>(59.02),\u00a0<strong>Takuro Fujii\u00a0<\/strong>(51.73), and\u00a0<strong>Katsumi Nakamura\u00a0<\/strong>(48.01)\u00a0finished third in 3:23.33.<\/p>\n<p>Australia and China tied in 3:32.57.<\/p>\n<p>Russia (3:32.95) and Brazil (3:32.96) followed.
