Morning number six of Olympic swimming began with the men’s splash and dash. Ukraine’s\u00a0Andril Govorov\u00a0<\/strong>got to the wall in the fastest time of the morning with a 21.49. American teammates\u00a0Nathan Adrian\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Anthony Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>took second and third in the 50 freestyle prelims.<\/p>\n

In the women’s 800 freestyle\u00a0Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to an Olympic record to take the top spot in the women’s 800 freestyle.\u00a0Boglarka Kapas\u00a0<\/strong>of Hungary and\u00a0Jazz Carlin\u00a0<\/strong>of Great Britain will enter tomorrow night’s finals in second and third.<\/p>\n

Joseph Schooling\u00a0<\/strong>of Singapore swam next to\u00a0Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>in this morning’s 100 butterfly. The young swimmer emerged as the top qualifier, followed by Hungary’s\u00a0Laszlo Cseh.\u00a0<\/strong>Americans\u00a0Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>and Phelps will be third and fourth seeds tonight.<\/p>\n

Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>set herself up well to leave Rio with four gold medals. The Iron Lady of Hungary touched in 2:06.09 in this morning’s 200 backstroke, over a second ahead of second qualifier\u00a0Hillary Caldwell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
