AUSTIN, Feb. 1. THE UNIVERSITY of Texas No. 1-ranked men's swimming and diving faces TCU on Friday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. and No. 22 SMU on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jamail Swim Center.<\/p>\n
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
\nThe TCU Horned Frogs are 1-4 in dual meet action after a 119-81 loss to No. 22 SMU on Wednesday, Jan. 24 in
\nDallas, Texas. Sophomore Jeff Parkinson led the Horned Frog charge, capturing first-place honors in the 100-yard freestyle (46.97) and a second place distinction in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.52.<\/p>\n
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
\nUnder head coach Eddie Reese, the Longhorns are 15-1 against the Horned Frogs. Last year, Texas captured a 125-82 win over TCU on Feb. 4, 2000, in Forth Worth, Texas.<\/p>\n
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
\nThe 22nd-ranked SMU Mustangs claimed a 119-81 win over their cross-town foe, TCU, on Wednesday, Jan. 24 in Dallas, Texas. The Mustangs now own a 3-2 record, including wins over then-ranked No. 25 Florida State, 226-120 and Louisiana-Monroe, 135-87. In their win over TCU, the Mustangs claimed nine of 13 events with sophomore diver Brice Dumais winning the one-meter (348.06) and three-meter (344.99) springboards.<\/p>\n
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
\nUnder head coach Eddie Reese, the Longhorns are 21-1 against the Mustangs and have claimed the last 21 matchups. Most recently, the Longhorns and the Mustangs met in the Texas Invitational, where Texas captured first place and SMU claimed seventh-place honors. Last year, the Longhorns recorded a 156-113 win over then-No. 14 SMU on Feb. 5 in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n
LAST MEET REWIND
\nThe No.1 University of Texas captured wins over No.
\n4 Texas A&M (238-131) and No. 6 Arizona (247-123) on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 26-27 at the Jamail Swim Center. Senior Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky.) claimed first-place honors in the 100-yard butterfly (47.86), 200 IM (1:48.53), and 100 backstroke (48.23), while freshman
\nBrendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa.) swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 (55.02) and 200 (1:59.08). Other strong contributions came from freshman Michael Halika (Jerusalem, Israel), who recorded a team season-best time in the 400 IM (3:50.36) for first place and
\nfinished third in the 1650 freestyle (15:27.17). Sophomore Chris Kemp (Southlake, Texas) also performed well, touching first in the 100 freestyle and tying a personal-best time of 44.54.<\/p>\n
BROTHERLY LOVE
\nJuniors Justin and Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) will
\ncompete against their younger brother Brice, who is a sophomore on the SMU diving squad. Last week the Dumais duo competed well with Troy claiming first-place honors on the one-meter and three-meter diving boards, while Justin placed first on the platform event. Of note, Troy Dumais is undefeated on the one-meter and three-meter boards this season. He also remains undefeated in his career on the three-meter board.<\/p>\n
THE FAB FRESHMEN
\nFreshmen Brendan Hansen and Michael Halika have already shown a strong presense on the Longhorn squad. Hansen holds the team's best times in the 100 (54.37) and 200 breaststroke (1:58.33), while Michael Halika recorded the Longhorn's top time in the 400 IM (3:50.36).<\/p>\n
ON TOP OF THE RANKINGS
\nDespite a dual-meet loss to then-No. 6 Tennessee, the Longhorns remained No. 1 in the fifth edition of the
\nCollege Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Poll, published Thursday, Jan. 18 on swiminfo.com. Of note, the Longhorns have held the top
\nspot since Nov. 19, 1999. <\/p>\n
HOME SWEET HOME
\nAfter opening their dual meet season with four
\nmatchups on the road, the Longhorns will remain at home until the NCAA Championships held on March 22-24 in College Station, Texas. Texas will compete in its last two dual meets of the season when they take on TCU on Friday, Feb. 2 and No. 22 SMU on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Longhorns will then host the 2001 Big 12 Championships on Thursday-Saturday, March 1-3.<\/p>\n
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
\nThe Longhorns have won 17 consecutive dual meets at the Jamail Swim Center and have not lost at home since
\nStanford edged them by a score of 122-121 on Oct. 30-31, 1998. The longest win streak for a UT team is 24 consecutive victories (1984-1992). In addition, under head coach Eddie Reese, Texas holds a 65-12 mark at the Jamail Swim Center.<\/p>\n
LAST YEAR REWIND
\nThe Longhorns capped off a stellar season by winning their seventh national title in school history at the 2000 NCAA Championships last March. Texas claimed a total of three relay titles and three individual titles en route to scoring the highest point margin in UT history and outdistancing second-place Auburn for
\nthe national title. Their NCAA crown completed the No.1 ranked Longhorns' perfect 10-0 dual meet season, in which they also claimed their 21st-consecutive conference title at the 2000 Big 12 Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
