{"id":217274,"date":"2016-08-10T08:16:41","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T15:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=217274"},"modified":"2016-08-10T09:02:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-10T16:02:18","slug":"womens-800-free-relay-prelims-lineups-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/womens-800-free-relay-prelims-lineups-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s 800 Free Relay Prelims Lineups Released; Missy Franklin Goes Second for USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After missing out on the finals of the 200 free,\u00a0<strong>Missy Franklin<\/strong> will return to the pool in the prelims of the women&#8217;s 800 free relay this afternoon.\u00a0<strong>Allison Schmitt<\/strong>, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the 200 free, will lead off the American squad, followed by Franklin,\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Cierra Runge<\/strong>. Schmitt already has a silver medal this week in the 400 free relay, and Margalis was fourth in the 200 IM Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>This relay has only been contested at five previous Olympics, but the Americans have won four of the five. Their only loss came in 2008, when a squad that included Schmitt settled for bronze behind Australia and China. The Americans will once again be favored in tonight&#8217;s finals when\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>join the squad.<\/p>\n<p>Australia will rest 200 free bronze medalist\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong> in prelims, but 2012 bronze medalist and three-time Olympian\u00a0<strong>Bronte Barratt\u00a0<\/strong>will swim the second leg for them in the first heat.
