On night three gold medals were awarded in four events.\u00a0The American backstroke legacy continued tonight.\u00a0Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>claimed gold in a new Olympic record in tonight’s 100 backstroke.\u00a0David Plummer\u00a0<\/strong>also earned a medal, taking bronze.<\/p>\n

Americans took the first and third spots on the podium again in the women’s 100 breaststroke. In a much anticipated race,\u00a0Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed gold in Olympic record time, beating\u00a0Russia’s\u00a0Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>who settled for silver.\u00a0Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>won bronze in the event.<\/p>\n

After falling short in the 400 freestyle on the first night, Sun Yang\u00a0<\/strong>walked away with the win in the 200 freestyle tonight.<\/p>\n

Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>claimed her second gold medal in three days with a win in the 100 backstroke.\u00a0Kathleen Baker\u00a0<\/strong>won silver and there was a tie for bronze between\u00a0Kylie Masse<\/strong> and\u00a0Fu Yuanhui<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>will head to tomorrow night’s 200 freestyle semifinals in the top spot.\u00a0Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Federica Pellegrini\u00a0<\/strong>will be in pursuit tomorrow night.<\/p>\n

Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>qualified for an Olympic final in the fifth straight Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
