{"id":216861,"date":"2016-08-09T06:08:49","date_gmt":"2016-08-09T13:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=216861"},"modified":"2016-08-09T09:32:19","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T16:32:19","slug":"2016-junior-nationals-day-2-prelims-live-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-junior-nationals-day-2-prelims-live-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 Junior Nationals: Day 2 Prelims Live Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along with prelims of day two of the 2016 Speedo Junior National Championships.<\/p>\n<h3>Schedule of Events:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 meter back<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 meter back<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 100 meter free<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 100 meter free<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 400 meter IM<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 400 meter IM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Hit refresh for the latest coverage<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 200 Back:<\/h2>\n<p>To start off\u00a0day two of the Speedo Junior Nationals, the women&#8217;s 200 back began\u00a0with <strong>Lucie Nordmann<\/strong> of Magnolia Aquatic Club taking the top seed for tonight&#8217;s final. \u00a0Nordmann was just off her entry time, touching at 2:11.64, but she had a blazing fourth 50 of 32.06 to push her into first going into tonight. \u00a0Just behind Nordmann was\u00a0<strong>Regan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>who will enter finals with a best time of 2:11.89.<\/p>\n<p>Nordmann and Smith are about a second ahead of the rest of the top eight, with\u00a0<strong>Callie Dickinson\u00a0<\/strong>as the third seed at 2:12.69. \u00a0Behind Dickinson was Nordmann&#8217;s teammate\u00a0<strong>Katherine Berkoff\u00a0<\/strong>will be fourth entering finals at 2:14.33.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marcie Maguire\u00a0<\/strong>(2:14.95),\u00a0<strong>Grace Ariola\u00a0<\/strong>(2:15.18) and\u00a0<strong>Abi Wilder\u00a0<\/strong>(2:15.23) finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively this morning to earn an A final swim tonight.<\/p>\n<p>To top off the top eight in the women&#8217;s 200 back this morning,\u00a0<strong>Audrey Reimer\u00a0<\/strong>of FAST had a personal best of 2:15.95 to sneak her into the final heat.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 200 Back:<\/h2>\n<p>Moving on to the men&#8217;s 200 back, it will be an exciting race tonight! \u00a0<strong>Clark Beach\u00a0<\/strong>had a great swim, dropping two seconds to touch with a personal best of 2:00.05 and stealing the top seed for tonight&#8217;s final. \u00a0Austin Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Artmann\u00a0<\/strong>also had a best time of 2:00.93 to enter tonight&#8217;s final second behind Beach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alessandro Boratto\u00a0<\/strong>of Upper Dublin Aquatic Club was third this morning, touching just off his best with a time of 2:02.03. \u00a0Beach&#8217;s brother,\u00a0<strong>Ethan Beach\u00a0<\/strong>is fourth going into tonights final&#8211; dropping nearly a second to touch with a best time of 2:02.82.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tal Davis\u00a0<\/strong>who was fifth this morning, was just off his best finishing at 2:03.93, while\u00a0<strong>Same Iida\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.62) and\u00a0<strong>Ethan Harder\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.89) dropped from their entry times to place sixth an seventh after the prelims.\u00a0<strong>Peter Larson\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.94) will round out tonight&#8217;s A final.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 100 Free:<\/h2>\n<p>With the women&#8217;s 100 free next, it is going to be an incredibly tight race tonight. \u00a0<strong>Morgan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>of Central Bucks Swim Team finished first in prelims with a best time of 56.23. \u00a0However, Scott is only seeded one hundredth ahead of <strong>Miki Dahlke\u00a0<\/strong>(56.24) who is just another hundredth ahead of third place finisher <strong>Morgan Tankersley\u00a0<\/strong>(56.25).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kenisha Liu <\/strong>was just behind the top three with a preliminary time of 56.32. \u00a0Liu was followed by\u00a0<strong>Trude Rothrock<\/strong>\u00a0of Carmel Swim Club who touched fifth overall with a time of 56.40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melissa Pish\u00a0<\/strong>(56.61),\u00a0<strong>Anya Goeders\u00a0<\/strong>(56.87) and\u00a0<strong>Riley Gaines\u00a0<\/strong>(56.90) will also be competing in tonight&#8217;s A final.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 100 Free:<\/h2>\n<p>Following the women, the men&#8217;s 100 free took off. \u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>was first after the preliminary session with a time of 50.47, just off his best. \u00a0Andrew has a comfortable half second lead ahead of second place finisher\u00a0<strong>David Madej\u00a0<\/strong>who had a best time of 50.94.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cody Bybee\u00a0<\/strong>of the Dayton Raiders also had a best time to touch third overall at 51.14. \u00a0Bybee was just ahead of Carmel Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Sam Schilling\u00a0<\/strong>of the Aquajets Swim Team who tied for fourth at 51.22. \u00a0Just behind them was\u00a0<strong>Matthew Willenbring,\u00a0<\/strong>who after being entered with a SCY time, snuck into the A final at 51.26.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing just a hundredth behind Willenbring was\u00a0<strong>Levente Bathory\u00a0<\/strong>(51.27) of Enfinity Aquatic Club, who touched just ahead of\u00a0<strong>Jake Sannem\u00a0<\/strong>(51.29) of Upper Dublin Aquatic Club to complete tonight&#8217;s\u00a0top eight for the men&#8217;s 100 free.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 400 IM:<\/h2>\n<p>Maintaining her top seed coming into the meet,\u00a0<strong>Lauren Edelman\u00a0<\/strong>of Fishers Area Swimming Tigers will be first headed into finals tonight. \u00a0Edelman finished a few seconds off her best at 4:49.59. \u00a0Finishing second overall this morning,\u00a0<strong>Sammie Burchill\u00a0<\/strong>of Carmel Swim Club was also just off her best at 4:51.92.<\/p>\n<p>As an overall close final for the women&#8217;s 400 IM,\u00a0<strong>Hailey Houck\u00a0<\/strong>will enter finals as the third seed at 4:52.07, while\u00a0<strong>Dannie Dilsaver\u00a0<\/strong>was fourth after prelims clocking in a best time of 4:53.19 and\u00a0<strong>Carley Lowe\u00a0<\/strong>will enter tonight&#8217;s final fifth. \u00a0Lowe was just off her best touching at 4:54.96.<\/p>\n<p>After just competing in the 100 free,\u00a0<strong>Kenisha Liu\u00a0<\/strong>of Brea Aquatics finished sixth overall at 4:55.26, just ahead of\u00a0<strong>Maggie Jahns <\/strong>(4:56.01)\u00a0of Fishers Area Swim Team and\u00a0<strong>Camryn Toney\u00a0<\/strong>(4:56.11) of Texas Ford Aquatics.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 400 IM:<\/h2>\n<p>For the final event of the preliminary session,\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>of Ridgefield Aquatics Club touched first with a best time of 4:25.52, about a second and a half ahead of the top seed coming into the meet\u00a0<strong>Sam Iida. \u00a0<\/strong>Iida was off his best this morning, finishing at 4:27.13, just a tenth ahead of\u00a0<strong>Tal Davis\u00a0<\/strong>who touched third overall at 4:27.23.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth and fifth place were just behind Iida and Davis, with\u00a0<strong>Carson Foster\u00a0<\/strong>of the Mason Manta Rays finishing fourth just off his best at\u00a04:27.77. \u00a0Foster&#8217;s teammate and brother,\u00a0<strong>Jake Foster<\/strong>, took fifth after prelims with a best time of 4:27.80.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing just after the Foster brothers,\u00a0<strong>Eric Knowles\u00a0<\/strong>of the Dayton Raiders will enter finals sixth at 4:28.16 and\u00a0<strong>Carter Grimes\u00a0<\/strong>(4:28.30) will be seventh, with\u00a0<strong>Matthew Jerden\u00a0<\/strong>(4:30.73) rounding out the top eight for tonight&#8217;s final of the men&#8217;s 400 IM.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along with prelims of day two of the 2016 Speedo Junior National Championships.
