His seed time (1:44.63) is nearly a second ahead of the next best, though\u00a0<strong>Connor Dwyer\u00a0<\/strong>(USA),\u00a0<strong>Kosuke Hagino\u00a0<\/strong>(Japan),\u00a0<strong>Paul Biedermann\u00a0<\/strong>(Germany), and\u00a0<strong>Aleksandr Krasnykh\u00a0<\/strong>(Russia) all enter within a quarter second of each other in the mid 1:45 range.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 100 backstroke final the young\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Baker\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States has been on fire since prelims. She&#8217;ll swim next to\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>(Hungary)\u00a0who has already established herself as a force through the first five sessions of swimming.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 100 backstroke final will see Americans\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>David Plummer\u00a0<\/strong>in the top two spots, separated by a mere hundredth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>(USA)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>(Russia)\u00a0will finally go head to head in the medal hunt in the women&#8217;s 100 breaststroke. World record holder\u00a0<strong>Ruta Meilutyte\u00a0<\/strong>(Lithuania)\u00a0is also in the mix.<\/p>\n<p>With top swimmers cruising through prelims of the men&#8217;s 200 butterfly, the intensity could increase tonight as\u00a0<strong>Laszo Cseh\u00a0<\/strong>of Hungary\u00a0will swim in the opening heat and his teammate\u00a0<strong>Tamas Kenderesi\u00a0<\/strong>will face\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>(USA)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Chad le Clos\u00a0<\/strong>(South Africa)\u00a0in the second semifinal.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight will wrap up with the women&#8217;s 200 IM semifinals.\u00a0Hosszu will be on her second race of the night.
