{"id":216673,"date":"2016-08-08T09:01:56","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T16:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=216673"},"modified":"2016-08-08T09:01:56","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T16:01:56","slug":"olympic-diving-preview-dynamic-american-duo-seeks-gold-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympic-diving-preview-dynamic-american-duo-seeks-gold-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympic Diving Preview: Dynamic American Duo Seeks Gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Erin Keaveny, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As we head into the third day of Olympic competition, the men get ready for the 10 meter synchro diving competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Boudia<\/strong> and <strong>Steele Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>will be the first American divers to compete in Rio. Boudia, the defending gold medalist on 10m and bronze medalist in synchronized 10m, and Johnson hail from the same team. The Purdue duo absolutely dominated U.S. team trials, finishing with a 238 point lead in synchro, as well as taking both spots in men&#8217;s individual 10m.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. team will face off against the teams from Russia, Germany, Mexico, Ukraine, Brazil, China, and Great Britain. Even with the team&#8217;s performance at trails and Boudia&#8217;s Olympic experience the path to gold for the Americans will not be an easy one.<\/p>\n<p>The Americans are in good company when it comes to Olympic experience and international success. China&#8217;s <strong>Chen Aisen<\/strong> and <strong>Lin Yue\u00a0<\/strong>will be looking for a gold. This event is the second step along the way in the Chinese team&#8217;s goal of an eight medal sweep. The Chinese won the event in London, but brought a new team to Rio this time around. Mexico&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Iv\u00e1n Garc\u00eda<\/strong> and <strong>Germ\u00e1n S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>, the silver medal team from 2012, are returning and seeking a podium for the second time. <strong>Tom Daly<\/strong>\u00a0will also be making his second appearance in the event.
