Competition begins at 1 p.m. local time (12 p.m. EST\/9 a.m. PST) Hit refresh for all the latest coverage.<\/p>\n<p>The full heat sheets can be viewed <a href=\"http:\/\/swimmingworld.azureedge.net\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Day-3-Prelims-Heat-Sheets.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scheduled Events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 Freestyle<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Butterfly<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>cruised through the opening 50 meters, fresh off her 400 freestyle world record. She turned it on in the backhalf of the race and led the way through to semifinals with a 1:55.01.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon\u00a0<\/strong>stayed close to Ledecky and will head to semifinals in second after posting a 1:55.80.<\/p>\n<p>With a new world record and Olympic gold in tow,\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>put herself into contention for another medal. The Swede recorded a 1:56.11 for the third spot tonight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlotte Bonnet\u00a0<\/strong>of France was just behind Sjostrom and snagged fourth in 1:56.26.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini,<\/strong>\u00a0the two time World Champion in the 200 freestyle,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>swam a very reserved race and pounced at the end to secure the fifth spot in 1:56.37. China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Duo Shen\u00a0<\/strong>will be sixth in 1:56.52.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michelle Coleman\u00a0<\/strong>of Sweden touched in 1:56.54 for seventh.\u00a0<strong>Yanhan Ai\u00a0<\/strong>of China got out to a very quick start in the opening circle seeded heat and wound up eighth overall in 1:56.77.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>swam in a non-circle seeded heat but earned a semifinals swim with her 1:56.91.\u00a0Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bronte Barratt\u00a0<\/strong>also secured a second swim with her 1:56.93.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Veronkia Popova\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.08),\u00a0<strong>Missy Franklin\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States (1:57.12), and Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katerine Savard\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.15) finished 11th through 13th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manuella Lyrio\u00a0<\/strong>of Brazil (1:57.28),\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands (1:57.68), and Canad&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brittany Maclean\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.74) will complete the semifinals tonight.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Butterfly<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Tamas Kenderesi\u00a0<\/strong>of Hungary stopped the clock in 1:54.73 to take the top spot in prelims.\u00a0<strong>Laszlo Cseh<\/strong>\u00a0of Hungary<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>leads the world rankings this year in 1:52.91. This morning\u00a0he finished just behind his teammate in 1:55.14.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad Le Clos\u00a0<\/strong>won the opening circle seeded heat in 1:55.57. That time held up for the third spot. <strong>Grant Irvine\u00a0<\/strong>of Australia will return to semifinals in fourth after posting a 1:55.64.<\/p>\n<p>The United States&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>did what he needed to do to earn a semifinal swim, touching in 1:55.73 for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese teammates\u00a0<strong>Masato Sakai\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto\u00a0<\/strong>swam 1:55.76 and 1:55.79, respectively for semifinals swims in sixth and eighth place. Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Viktor Bromer\u00a0<\/strong>snuck between the duo with a 1:55.77 for seventh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leonardo De Deus\u00a0<\/strong>responded to the excited home crowd with a ninth seeded 1:55.98.\u00a0Singapore&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zheng Wen Quah\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:56.01 for tenth.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Evgeny Koptelov\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.13), Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Kaio Marcio\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.45)\u00a0and Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simon Sjodin\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.46) take the 11th through 13th spots.<\/p>\n<p>Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Louis Croenen\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.48), Colombia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan David Gomez Noriega\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.65), and China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhuhao Li\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.72) also earn semifinal swims.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>In this morning&#8217;s 200 IM prelims world record holder\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>set herself up for another gold medal, posting the Olympic record with a 2:07.45 to lead prelims.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siobhan-Marie O&#8217;Connor\u00a0<\/strong>of Great Britain finished third at the World Championships. This morning she was impressive, shooting forward to a 2:08.44, her best time this year and good for second overall.<\/p>\n<p>American\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>worked to stay near O&#8217;Connor and touched in 2:09.62.\u00a0Her teammate<strong> Maya DiRado\u00a0<\/strong>had a fabulous backstroke leg. The 400 IM silver medalist finished in 2:10.24 for the fourth spot tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miho Teramura\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 2:10.34 for fifth.\u00a0Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alicia Coutts\u00a0<\/strong>tried\u00a0to stick with DiRado over the back half and finished sixth overall with a 2:10.52.<\/p>\n<p>Former Olympic record holder\u00a0<strong>Ye Shiwen\u00a0<\/strong>of China recovered from a poor 400 IM to qualify seventh in 2:10.56. Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Pickrem\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.06), and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.69) followed.<\/p>\n<p>Korea&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Seoyeong Kim\u00a0<\/strong>was fifth at the Asian Games.
