For Athens, I wanted to win gold for my country. For Beijing, I wanted to do something nobody else had done. In London, I wanted to make history. And now, I want to walk in the Opening Ceremony, take it all in, represent America in the best possible way and make my family proud. The highlight of the meet had to be fourteen year old <\/span><b>Regan Smith, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who downed <\/span><b>Missy Franklin\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13-14 NAG record in the 100 backstroke, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-takes-down-missy-franklins-100-backstroke-nag-record\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touching the wall in 1:00.31 in the morning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prelims before <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-lowers-100-backstroke-national-age-group-mark-again\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">taking it down again to 1:00.26 in the finals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where she finished second behind Australian <\/span><b>Holly Barratt. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other notable swims included Texas Longhorn <\/span><b>Andrew Wilson <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-u-s-open-swimming-championships-day-4-finals-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">taking the 100 breaststroke in a personal best 59.51<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, just off the meet record, and <\/span><b>Bethany Galat<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-u-s-open-swimming-championships-day-two-finals-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.34<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a time that would have made the Olympic Team in Omaha. <\/span><b>Wilson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also picked up a win in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-u-s-open-swimming-championships-day-two-finals-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 200 breaststroke (2:09.73)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while <\/span><b>Galat <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a win in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-u-s-open-swimming-championships-day-3-finals-live-recap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 400 IM (4:38.66)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. With that win, <\/span><b>Wu Minxia <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">became the most decorated female diver, bringing her career medal tally to seven Olympic medals, five of which are gold. It also ties her as being one of only two women to have won diving medals in four separate Olympic Games, as well as being the oldest female diver to win a diving Olympic medal. Behind the Chinese pair were the Italians in the silver position and the Australians in bronze position. Following the completion of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/what-the-independent-investigation-into-russias-systematic-doping-program-means-to-swimming\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McLaren Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-officially-pulls-yulia-efimova-six-other-russians-from-rio-games-in-accordance-with-ioc-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seven Russian swimmers were deemed ineligible to compete<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on the stipulations laid out by the IOC just a week before the start of the Olympic Games.
