Heat sheets for the second night of semifinals and finals have been released. They are available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tonight is among the busiest of the Games, with medals up for grabs in four events and four more semifinals.<\/p>\n

World record holder\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>will go up against former world record holder and reigning Olympic champion\u00a0Dana Vollmer\u00a0<\/strong>in the final of the women’s 100 butterfly. Youngsters\u00a0Rikako Ikee<\/strong> and\u00a0Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> will look for a spot on the medal podium and a potential new World Junior Record.<\/p>\n

China’s\u00a0Sun Yang<\/strong> highlights a tight semi-finals field for the men’s 200 free, which includes world record holder\u00a0Paul Biedermann<\/strong> (Germany) and reigning world champion\u00a0James Guy<\/strong> (Great Britain). NCAA and American SCY Record Holder\u00a0Townley Haas<\/strong> (USA), fellow American\u00a0Conor Dwyer, <\/strong>and\u00a0newly minted gold medalist\u00a0Kosuke Hagino<\/strong> (Japan)\u00a0are also in the mix.<\/p>\n

Scratching out of the 200 free was France’s\u00a0Jeremy Stravius<\/strong>, allowing\u00a0Glenn Surgeloose<\/strong> of Belarus a chance at making the finals.<\/p>\n

Lilly King<\/strong> (USA) and\u00a0Yulia Efimova<\/strong> (Russia) highlight semi-finals of the women’s 100 breast after finishing .01 seconds apart from separate heats this morning. Joining them in semi-finals are\u00a0Katie Meili<\/strong> (USA), reigning World Record holder\u00a0Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong> (Lithuania), and Jamaica’s\u00a0Alia Atkinson<\/strong>. Sixteenth ranked\u00a0Arianna Castiglione\u00a0<\/strong>(Italy) scratched out giving Japan’s’\u00a0Kanako Watanabe<\/strong> a spot in semi-final one.<\/p>\n

No scratches from the men’s 100 breaststroke final. It’ll be a battle for second as the world record holder sits more than a second ahead of the rest of the field. Look for breaststroke superstar\u00a0Adam Peaty<\/strong> (Great Britain) to lower his World Record\u00a0again<\/em>. Americans\u00a0Cody Miller<\/strong> and\u00a0Kevin Cordes<\/strong> will aim for a spot on the podium, while battling the likes of\u00a0Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> (South Africa) and\u00a0Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong> (Japan).<\/p>\n

Katie Ledecky<\/strong> and\u00a0Leah Smith<\/strong> of the USA sit at 1-3 going into finals of the 400 free. After flirting with a new World Record this morning, the potential for Ledecky to break the 3:58 barrier is sitting high.\u00a0Jazz Carlin<\/strong> will look to add to Great Britain’s medal count.<\/p>\n

No scratches in the men’s 100 back semi-finals, but it is highlighted by a tight field of competitors. Watch for swift swims as\u00a0Ryan Murphy<\/strong> (USA),\u00a0Mitch Larkin\u00a0<\/strong>(Australia),\u00a0Camille Lacourt<\/strong> (France),\u00a0David Plummer<\/strong> (USA), and more vie for the top eight spots.<\/p>\n

Only two women, Emily Seebohm<\/strong> (Australia) and\u00a0Kathleen Baker<\/strong> (USA)\u00a0were beneath the 59-second mark this morning in prelims. The Olympic Record sits at a 58.23, set by Seebohm in 2012, and could very well be in reach after Baker’s 58.84 this morning.\u00a0Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>(Hungary),\u00a0Kylie Masse<\/strong> (Canada),\u00a0Kirsty Coventry\u00a0<\/strong>(Zimbabwe), and\u00a0Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> (USA) are just a few of the top names also highlighting the semi-finals heats.<\/p>\n
