Jan. 29. THE NEBRASKA men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming
\nand diving team\u2019s swept weekend dual meets from conference foes Kansas and Missouri last weekend at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool.<\/p>\n
The Nebraska women defeated Kansas 125-118. The Huskers were led by senior All-American Beth Karaica, who took home two individual titles on the night in the 50- (23.53) and 100-yard freestyle (51.58). She
\nalso helped Nebraska to a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.07).<\/p>\n
Sophomore All-American Lindsey Highstrom chipped in a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.86). Nebraska got help from four freshmen as well. Freshmen Jackie Lobdell (1,000-yard freestyle 10:10.17), Rebecca Wolfe (200-yard butterfly 2:01.78), Kristen Souppa (200-yard breaststroke 2:18.63) and Barbara Auer (200-yard backstroke 2:02.38) all aided the Huskers to victory.<\/p>\n
On Saturday afternoon the Huskers defeated Missouri 130-112. The Huskers were again led by Karaica. Karaica won the 50-(23.61) and 100-yard freestyle (51.88). She also aided Nebraska on the winning 200-yard medley relay. Other event winners included:
\nsophomore All-American Lindsey Highstrom, who won
\nthe 200-yard IM (2:08.00), as well as a trio of
\nfreshmen.<\/p>\n
Rebecca Wolfe won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:23.99), Carmen Cosgrove touched the wall in 57.25 in the 100-yard butterfly and Jackie Lobdell won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:01.82. Sophomore Keri Hehn
\nrounded out the winners with a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.67).<\/p>\n
The Nebraska men dominated the Jayhawks on Friday night, taking home 10 of 13 events, en route to a 161-76 victory. Saturday night, the Huskers faced a much tougher opponent in Missouri. NU was able to overcome
\nan early Tiger lead and come out on top, 134-109.
\nOn the weekend, the Huskers won an impressive 18 of 26 events.<\/p>\n
The Husker men were led by freshman Brent Menghini who took home three individual titles en route to the Husker sweep. Junior All-American and Olympian Javier
\nBotello also helped the Huskers with a pair of individual victories as well as a hand in four winning relays.<\/p>\n
Senior diver Charlie Law captured both the one- (292.04) and the three-meter (286.95) springboards versus the Jayhawks. Six other Husker men chipped in with individual victories on the weekend.<\/p>\n
The weekend closed an impressive month for both the Husker men and women. The men\u2019s squad went 6-1 on the month, the only blemish coming against Georgia Tech.
\nThe Husker women went 7-2, with their only defeats coming at No. 15 SMU and versus then-No. 24 Purdue.<\/p>\n
In another Nebraska news, interim Head Coach Paul Nelsen announced that a trio of European swimmers
\nhave been added to the Husker roster. Two Austrians, Barbara Auer, a backstroker, and Christine Schriner, a distance swimmer, will try to help the Husker women recapture the Big 12 title.<\/p>\n
On the men\u2019s side, freshman Andreas Campioni, a German native, joined the. The Husker coaching staff added another prized recruit as Perth, Australia native,
\nCarmen Cosgrove, joined the team last week. According to the coaching staff, Cosgrove is a top international swimmer who will add depth and experience in the
