MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada, July 8. DURING the first night of action at the Canadian World Championship Trials, Amanda Reason cleared the women's 50 breast world record.<\/p>\n
Reason posted a time of 30.23 to erase Jade Edminston's 2006 global mark of 30.31. She becomes the only Canadian currently in the long course meter world record books. Annamay Pierse currently owns the short course meter global mark in the 200 breast with a 2:17.50. Pierse wound up second with a time of 31.16 this evening, while Michelle LaPrade placed third in 31.78.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Heather Maclean claimed the women's 200 free Canadian record with a time of 1:57.20. The readout beat Stephanie Horner's record of 1:58.00 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Alexandra Gabor (1:58.76), Genevieve Saumur (1:58.78) and Julia Wilkinson (1:59.41) cleared 2:00 to comprise the top four.<\/p>\n
After setting the national record in prelims with a swift 27.81, Scott Dickens cleared 28 seconds again with a winning time of 27.95 in the men's 50 breast. His preliminary time wiped out the 28.22 set by Morgan Knabe in June 2003. Paul Kornfeld finished second in 28.06, while Mathieu Bois took third in 28.22.<\/p>\n
Pascal Wollach snatched the men's 100 back national mark with a triumphant time of 53.63. The readout erased Mark Tewksbury's July 1992 record of 53.98. Jake Tapp finished second in 54.82, while Charles Francis touched third in 55.53.<\/p>\n
In other finals action, Colin Russell paced the men's 200 free in 1:47.17, while Ryan Cochrane (1:48.55), Blake Worsley (1:48.61) and Joel Greenshields (1:48.82) made up the rest of the top four. Sinead Russell topped the women's 100 back in 1:00.83, while Gabrielle Soucisse took second in 1:01.35. Wilkinson completed the top three in 1:02.13.<\/p>\n
Audrey Lacroix cruised in the women's 200 fly with a top time of 2:07.86 with Tanya Hunks taking second in 2:09.85. MacKenzie Downing wound up third in 2:11.16. Anders McIntyre cleared 2:00 in the men's 200 fly with a winning time of 1:59.91. Tim Ruse (2:00.12) and Thomas Jobin (2:00.26) finished second and third.<\/p>\n
In an exciting swim, Natalie Sacco touched out Susana Escobar, 16:47.42 to 16:47.44, for the women's 1500 free title. Bridget Coley claimed third in 16:58.27.<\/p>\n
