Events on the docket to be contested during prelims\u2014beginning at 1 p.m. local time\u2014include the men&#8217;s 400 IM, women&#8217;s 100 fly, men&#8217;s 400 free, women&#8217;s 400 IM, men&#8217;s 100 breast and women&#8217;s 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 400 IM will have a new champion after Americans\u00a0<strong>Tom Dolan\u00a0<\/strong>(1996 &amp;\u00a02000),\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>(2004 &amp;\u00a02008) and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Lochte\u00a0<\/strong>(2012) combined to win the last five Olympic golds. Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kosuke Hagino<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto\u00a0<\/strong>headline the field, with American\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong> and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>David Verraszto<\/strong> giving chase. Also competing are defending gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Dana Vollmer\u00a0<\/strong>and World Championships runner-up\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong>.
