THE University of Nevada women’s swim team completed a two-day sweep over Washington State University with a 114-88 victory in a dual meet Saturday. The Wolf Pack had earlier beaten the Cougars 150.5-111.5 Friday evening.

"Basically we have been in a lull with our training since the Olympic Training Center trip, and the altitude in Reno definitely affected our attitude," WSU
head coach Rocco Aceto said. "Nevada just came in off a tough loss to Pacific last weekend, and prepared dilligently against us. The bottom line is our team
had a poor athletic performance this weekend.

Nevada won seven of 11 events, and senior Ping Luo claimed three victories for the second day in a row.
Luo won the 500 and 1000 freestyle, and the 200 butterfly Saturday.

Cougar Freshman Taryn Ternent (Edenvale, South Africa) won two events, bringing
her total to five victories in the two days. Ternent claimed victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.17 seconds, and the 100 freestyle in 52.98
seconds.

"Taryn was the most aggressive competitor for us, she really held the team together," Aceto said. "Other than that, the Wolf Pack wanted a victory more than us, and we had some uncontrolled variables affect us, which in athletics is something you have to plan ahead for."

Andree-Anne LeRoy, a freshman from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, grabbed first place for WSU in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes 10.92
seconds. WSU’s 200 freestyle relay team of Rebecca Cohen (Portland, Ore.), Sara Schmied (Woodinville, Wash.), Theresa Dunn (Morgan Hills, Calif.) and Rachelle Carano (Reno, Nev.) added a victory in the last event of the day, but it was too late for the Cougars.

"We got swept, and just had a really poor swimming weekend, but we hope and believe that we can rebound well against the Oregon State Beavers next weekend," Aceto said.

The Cougars, now 7-3 this season, compete next against Oregon State in a two-day series of dual meets Friday and Saturday February 2-3 in Corvallis.

TEAM SCORING
Washington State 88
Nevada 114

RESULTS
400 Medley Relay
1.
