North Baltimore&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sierra Schmidt<\/strong> moved up from her fourth place seed to claim first with a 4:08.82, shaving 4.88 seconds off her prelims time of 4:13.70.<\/p>\n<p>Sliding to second was this morning&#8217;s leader\u00a0<strong>Ashley Twichell<\/strong> of Mission Viejo. Twichell lowered her prelims time of 4:11.50 to a 4:09.10 to finish second overall.<\/p>\n<p>Marietta Marlins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Stephanie Peters\u00a0<\/strong>picked up third with a final 4:09.55 to be the only other athlete under the 4:10 mark.<\/p>\n<p>York YMCA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Courtney Harnish\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a time of 4:13.03 for fourth, while Indiana University&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Stephanie Marchuk<\/strong> took fifth with a 4:13.75.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erica Sullivan<\/strong> of Sandpipers of Nevada finished sixth overall with a time of 4:13.91.<\/p>\n<p>Marlins of Raleigh&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Madison Homovich<\/strong> (4:15.61) and Boilermaker Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Kaersten Meitz<\/strong> (4:15.99) rounded out the top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 Free:<\/h3>\n<p>The fast swims continued into the men&#8217;s 400 free with Badger Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zane Grothe<\/strong> overturning the existing meet record of 3:47.62 by almost two full seconds. Grothe stopped the clock at a 3:45.63 to overturn\u00a0<strong>Michael Klueh&#8217;s<\/strong> meet record of 2008.<\/p>\n<p>COSSS&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Grainger<\/strong> posted a 3:47.83 to finish second overall, just ahead of Gator Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>True Sweetser&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>3:47.94.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up fourth overall was\u00a0<strong>Liam Egan<\/strong> of Crimson Aquatics with a 3:50.16.<\/p>\n<p>Swim Wales&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Daniel Jervis<\/strong> grabbed fifth overall with a time of 3:53.46, while\u00a0<strong>PJ Ransford<\/strong> of Club Wolverine was sixth with a 3:54.02.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew Brady<\/strong> (3:56.58), swimming unattached, and Kentucky Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Isaac Jones<\/strong> (3:58.57) finished seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Breast:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bethany Galat\u00a0<\/strong>of Aggie Swim Club dashed ahead of the competition in the women&#8217;s 200 breast to claim first overall with a 2:24.34, finishing close to three seconds ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong>, swimming unattached, slipped to second with a time of 2:27.21, scratching close to half a second off her prelims time of 2:27.69.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up the bronze medal was\u00a0<strong>Miranda Tucker<\/strong>, swimming unattached, with a final time of 2:28.24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia Anderson<\/strong> of Aquajets and\u00a0<strong>Anna Belousova<\/strong> of Nation&#8217;s Capital kept a close race for fourth, posting times .11 seconds apart. Anderson got her hands to the wall first with a 2:28.55 over Belousova&#8217;s 2:28.66.<\/p>\n<p>Aggie Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Medina Gonzalez<\/strong> finished sixth with a time of 2:29.31, while Cardinal Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Andee Cottrell<\/strong> grabbed seventh with a 2:29.95.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Franko Jonker<\/strong> of Aggie Swim Club was eighth with a 2:30.88.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Breast:<\/h3>\n<p>A swift final highlighted the men&#8217;s 200 breast with the top two swimmers posting times under the existing U.S. Open meet record. Longhorn Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Andrew Wilson<\/strong> and Longborough&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Wilby\u00a0<\/strong>both posted times underneath the existing meet record of 2:10.36 set in 2013 by\u00a0<strong>Scott Weltz.<\/strong> Wilson stopped the clock at a 2:09.73 to finish first and officially claim the new meet record. Wilby settled for second and a final time of 2:10.01.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up third was\u00a0<strong>Marat Amaltdinov<\/strong> of Boilermaker Aquatics with a final time of 2:11.91.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Wilson<\/strong> grabbed fourth overall with a time of 2:12.27.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Julian Layton<\/strong> and WEST&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nick Zito\u00a0<\/strong>delivered matching times of 2:14.46 to tie for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Powel Crosley&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Rutter<\/strong> (2:16.15) and Indiana University&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cody Taylor<\/strong> (2:17.56) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Back:<\/h3>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sian Whittaker<\/strong> maintained her spot atop the leaderboard in the women&#8217;s 200 back with a final time of 2:08.64. Whittaker&#8217;s time challenged the existing U.S. Open meet record of 2:08.42.<\/p>\n<p>Aquazot&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eva Merrell<\/strong> turned in a final time of 2:09.54 to grab the silver medal, while NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hannah Moore\u00a0<\/strong>delivered a 2:10.14 for the bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Longhorn Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Tasija Karosas<\/strong> finished fourth with a 2:10.41, while Kentucky Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Bridgette Alexander\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth with a 2:11.86.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> of Riptide grabbed sixth with a 2:12.34, just ahead of Irish Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Alice Treuth&#8217;s<\/strong> 2:12.93.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hellen Moffitt\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the top eight with a 2:13.26.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Back:<\/h3>\n<p>New York Athletic Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Arkady Vyatchanin\u00a0<\/strong>and H2okie Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Robert Owen\u00a0<\/strong>dueled throughout the final of the men&#8217;s 200 back for the win. Vyatchanin jumped to an early lead, but a strong back-half from Owen closed the gap and the\u00a0two finished a slim .14 seconds apart. Vyatchanin got his hand to the wall first stopping the clock at a 1:56.65 over Owen&#8217;s 1:56.79.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana University&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bob Glover\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed third with a 2:00.03, shaving time off his prelims swim of 2:01.23.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brennan Balogh\u00a0<\/strong>of Lincoln Select kept a tight race with University of Alabama&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Crews Wellford<\/strong> with the two finishing .16 seconds apart. Balogh posted fourth with a 2:01.10 ahead of Wellford&#8217;s 2:01.26.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana University&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Beckman<\/strong> (2:01.57), Irish Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Rob Whitacre<\/strong> (2:01.64), and Wisconsin Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Todd McCarthy\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.74) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 4&#215;100 Free Relay:<\/h3>\n<p>The night ended with one last U.S. Open meet record falling in the 400 free relay. The relay team of\u00a0<strong>William Stockwell<\/strong> (49.50),\u00a0<strong>Alexander Graham<\/strong> (49.11),\u00a0<strong>Blake Jones\u00a0<\/strong>(49.21), and\u00a0<strong>Zac Incerti<\/strong> (49.05) posted a combined time of 3:16.87 to overturn the 2012 meet record of 3:19.06.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up second was Cardinal Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Zach Harting<\/strong> (51.06),\u00a0<strong>Trevor Carroll<\/strong> (49.61),\u00a0<strong>David Boland<\/strong> (51.03), and\u00a0<strong>Christian Garkani<\/strong> (51.31) with a time of 3:23.01.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana University&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sam Lorentz<\/strong> (50.70),\u00a0<strong>Ian Finnerty\u00a0<\/strong>(50.35),\u00a0<strong>Vini Lanza<\/strong> (50.65), and\u00a0<strong>Max Irwin\u00a0<\/strong>(51.31) finished a close third with a 3:23.05.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along live with day two finals of the 2016 U.S. Open Swimming Championships.
