AMHERST, Mass., Jan. 27. FRESHMAN Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:20.57 as the University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team fell to Rutgers, 149-125, on Senior Day this afternoon at UMass' Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. <\/p>\n
Today marked the last home meet for seniors Julie Dragon (Sturbridge, Mass.), Sharyn Harrison (Naugatuck, Conn.), Sarah Newell (Dillsburg, Pa.), Shannon Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Robin Velona (Belmont, Mass.). The Minutewomen are now 9-3 on the season. <\/p>\n
Dexter previously set the record in the 200 breast last week at UMBC with a time of 2:21.79 and on Dec. 2, versus Syracuse with a time of 2:22.20. She also placed first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.78, which is just behind Newell's school-record of 1:06.76. <\/p>\n
UMass also received individual victories from junior Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass.) in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.54 and freshman Shauna Nielsen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in the 500 free with a time of 5:20.08. <\/p>\n
The 200 free relay team of junior Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.), Hunnewell, sophomore Molly Buckley (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) won the event with a team season top time of 1:38.62. <\/p>\n
Sophomore diver Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) placed second in both diving events with a score of 241.73 in the one-meter and 245.78 in the three-meter. <\/p>\n
