And maybe one would think that as you progress into higher levels, that would be increasingly true, but any swimmer will tell you it is quite the opposite. The silence though, only seems to make each lap harder&#8211; which is why one of the best moments is when one person decides to break that silence by cheering their teammates on, sparking the energy back into the pool. Swimming proves itself as a team sport when teammates seem to know when someone needs help during a meet, whether it be a last minute lap counter or help\u00a0getting into a tight new technical\u00a0suit. Somehow, someone always pulls through, often\u00a0without being asked. Teammates are obviously the only people to be trusted with these responsibilities.<\/p>\n<h2>3.\u00a0<strong>When the best of the best consistently choose college over sponsorship money.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_128216\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128216\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-128216\" src=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/california-celebration-wncaa-di-2015-3289-700x500.jpg\" alt=\"california-celebration-\" width=\"700\" height=\"500\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-128216\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Courtesy: Peter H. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many young Olympians, there is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/sports\/international\/ct-swimmer-ledecky-losing-millions-of-dollars-20150808-column.html\" target=\"_blank\">opportunity to profit<\/a> from their talent and hard work in sponsorships, which would eliminate them from collegiate competition. However, so many choose to forgo this to go to college, knowing that the experience of contributing to and being a part of a team is irreplaceable. Notably, both <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> and <strong>Missy Franklin<\/strong> have pursued collegiate competition for these exact reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Whether it be in practice or in meets,\u00a0at least once a week during swim season I find myself in awe of something my teammates just did. Anything from an insane pace they held during a set or a best time in a meet inspires the entire team to be better.
