THE University of Virginia men&#39;s and women&#39;s swimming and diving teams concluded the home dual meet portion of their<br \/>\nrespective schedules with victories over Duke on Saturday afternoon (January 27) at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.  The 11th-ranked Virginia men defeated Duke 162-118, while the 12th-ranked Cavalier women<br \/>\nregistered a 156.5-121.5 victory over the Blue Devils.<\/p>\n<p>The 11th ranked Virginia men improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the ACC by winning 11 of 16 events which does not include exhibition wins in four other events, in defeating Duke (4-3, 0-2 ACC) 162-118. <\/p>\n<p>Freshman Ian Prichard (Ventura, Calif.\/Buena) turned in an outstanding performance in winning the 1000 freestyle.  Prichard clocked a time of 9:02.90, and in the process, set ACC, school and pool records, breaking the former mark of 9:04.76, set by UVa&#39;s Austin Ramirez in 1998.  <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Guy Yimsomruay(Bangkok, Thailand\/Germantown Academy) won the 200 butterfly (1:49.17) and the 200 backstroke (1:50.50) and also swam a leg on Virginia&#39;s winning 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:34.17.  <\/p>\n<p>Freshman Luke Wagner (Greenwood, Colo.\/Regis Jesuit), sophomore Brian Best (Columbia, Md.\/Wilde Lake) and senior Troy Johnson (St. George, Utah\/Dixie) also<br \/>\nswam legs on the winning relay.  Johnson was victorious in the 50 free as well as he touched in 21.46.  Wagner also posted the top time in the 200<br \/>\nindividual medley with an exhibition time of 1:55.66.<br \/>\nJunior diver Joe Piorkowski (Easton, Pa.\/Easton) qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Regionals with a score of 290.40 points while winning the one-meter diving competition.  Piorkowski also tallied a season-best 288.38 points in the three-meter competition which he exhibitioned.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers also had five swimmers who earned one victory in the meet. Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va.\/Bolles School) won the 200 free (1:41.27), while Jon Haag (Ashland, Ohio\/Ashland) took the top spot in<br \/>\nthe 100 backstroke (51.75). Gary Marshall (Bartles-ville, Okla.\/Bartlesville) touched in 57.45 to win the 100 breaststroke.  Adam Kerpelman (Lutherville, Md.\/<br \/>\nSt. Paul&#39;s School) was victorious in the 100 free (46.87), while Dovydas Pelegrimas (Port Washington, N.Y.\/Germantown) clocked a time of 4:44.10 to win the 500 free.<\/p>\n<p>The lone Duke victory (other than events the Cavaliers exhibitioned) came in the 200 breast as Ryan Spoon recorded a time of 2:04.75.<\/p>\n<p>The 12th-ranked Virginia women improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the ACC with a 156.5-121.5 victory over Duke (5-2, 0-2 ACC).  UVa won 10 of 16 events; not including five exhibition wins.  Sophomore Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia\/Trinity Prep) led the Cavaliers with three individual wins.  Bosevska won the 200 free (1:52.08), 200 butterfly (2:01.55) and 200<br \/>\nbackstroke (2:08.09) with her time of the 200 fly bettering the NCAA B qualifying standard.  <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa.\/Council Rock)won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 253.88 points and her score of 259.50 points on the three-meter board and would have won had she not exhibitioned the event.  <\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers won the first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.96.  Senior Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del.\/St. Mark&#39;s), freshman Rachael Schaffner (Vienna,Va.\/Bishop O&#39;Connell), freshman Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla.\/Trinity Prep) and sophomore Lindsey Crane (Fairport, N.Y.\/<br \/>\nFairport)swam legs on the relay.   Iffland also won the 100 back in 57.65 and earned an exhibition win in the 100 fly (57.71), while Schaffner earned a win in<br \/>\nthe 200 breast (2:24.63).  Dykehouse earned an exhibition win in the 500 free (4:55.35) as well.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Favreau (Alamo, Calif.\/Monte Vista) won the 100 free in 53.26, while first-year Betsy Downey  Richmond, Va.\/Douglas Freeman) won the 1000 free in 10:24.11.  Jenna Bridges (Jacksonville, Fla.\/Bolles School) earned a victory in the 50 free (24.25).  <\/p>\n<p>Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga.\/Marist School) captured an exhibition win in the 200 IM (2:07.19).  Allison Watson earned Duke&#39;s lone win in an event that UVa<br \/>\ndid not exhibition, as she took the 100 breast in 1:07.48.<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia men&#39;s and women&#39;s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, February 3 when they travel to Maryland for their final dual meet of the season.
