TWO related news items were recently published regarding the impact of the media on the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>The <i>Telegraph<\/i> is <a href=http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/sport\/othersports\/olympics\/5614567\/International-Olympic-Committee-looking-at-pay-TV-options.html target=_blank>reporting<\/a> that the International Olympic Committee is looking towards a potential pay television option for the Olympics in the British market.<\/p>\n<p>While rules require that all Olympic events be available for free, &quot;the IOC&#39;s head of television, Timo Lumme, has written to David Davies, chairman of the listing panel, asking for the rules to be rewritten so that only a minimum amount of coverage, including all major finals and medal events, have to be available free.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile on the 2010 Winter Games front, NBC Universal is preparing to take a serious look at potential copyright violations in Canada according to a <a href=http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/business\/feedarticle\/8565132 target=_blank>report<\/a> by the <i>Guardian<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>As reported in the article, &quot;Canada&#39;s weak copyright laws recently landed it on a \u2018priority watch list&#39; issued by the U.S Trade Representative.&quot;  There are fears that Canada&#39;s relaxed stance on ownership issues could lead to rampant piracy of the 2010 Winter Games.
