Any conversation about the men\u2019s 100 breast begins and ends with Great Britain\u2019s Adam Peaty<\/strong>. He won the event at last year\u2019s World Championships, taking down Olympic gold medalist Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> of South Africa in the process. Peaty is the only man ever to break 58 seconds in the event, and no one has swum within a half-second of his lifetime best.<\/p>\n

Van der Burgh should be the favorite for silver, followed by a close battle for bronze among Peaty\u2019s countryman, Ross Murdoch<\/strong>, and both Americans\u2014Kevin Cordes<\/strong> and Cody Miller<\/strong>. This could also be a good opportunity for host Brazil to get involved in the medal race, as Jo\u00e3o Gomes<\/strong> Junior<\/strong> and Felipe Fran\u00e7a da Silva<\/strong> rank among the world\u2019s top five.<\/p>\n
