RENOWNED coach Ron Johnson returns for the second edition of the <i>Swimming Technique Show<\/i> to talk about his observations regarding an innovative way of swimming freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson and host Brent Rutemiller talk about the advent of the so-called &quot;symmetrical wave freestyle,&quot; which seemingly started in the late 1980s with Tom Jager, Matt Biondi and Janet Evans. The swimmer rises and falls on the surface of the water with each armstroke, giving the illusion of swimming in a wavelike fashion. Johnson said the majority of coaches and swimmers believe the correct way to swim freestyle is maintain a straight-line pattern in their stroke, though the top freestylers are utilizing this technique.
