{"id":213856,"date":"2016-07-26T08:53:58","date_gmt":"2016-07-26T15:53:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=213856"},"modified":"2016-07-26T08:53:58","modified_gmt":"2016-07-26T15:53:58","slug":"yulia-efimova-filing-an-appeal-on-olympic-ban-with-cas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yulia-efimova-filing-an-appeal-on-olympic-ban-with-cas\/","title":{"rendered":"Yulia Efimova Filing an Appeal on Olympic Ban with CAS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>announced plans to file a lawsuit to appeal her ban from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-officially-pulls-yulia-efimova-six-other-russians-from-rio-games-in-accordance-with-ioc-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\">FINA declared<\/a> that she and six other Russian teammates were no longer eligible for the Olympics. That decision came as a result of the International Olympic Committee&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ioc-releases-conditions-for-russian-participation-in-rio-olympics-avoids-full-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\">decision<\/a> to avoid a blanket ban, and put the responsibility\u00a0on International Federations.<\/p>\n<p>Her agent told media that the lawsuit &#8220;will most likely be filed at (Court of Arbitration for Sport) CAS on July 29.&#8221; That would leave just a week before the start of the Rio Olympic Games for a decision to be made.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month the CAS backed a ban on Russian track and field athletes.<\/p>\n<p>The 24 year old is the first to announce plans to appeal, though two weightlifters, a wrestler, and three rowers have also been banned from Rio by their International Federations.<\/p>\n<p>The four time World Champion has had a tumultuous spring in regards to her Olympic eligibility. She was temporarily\u00a0suspended\u00a0after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yuliya-efimova-reportedly-tests-positive-for-meldonium\/\" target=\"_blank\">positive test<\/a> for meldonium. Efimova then appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yuliya-efimova-listed-russias-olympic-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\">Russia&#8217;s Olympic roster<\/a>.
