CANET, France, June 11. THE final night of long course meter swimming at the Mare Nostrum stop in Canet featured a Norwegian record and several of meet records taking a tumble.<\/p>\n
Sweden's Therese Alshammar and Australia's Marieke Guehrer put on a show in the women's 50 fly to begin the evening. Alshammar nearly clipped her national record of 25.46 with a winning time of 25.57. Meanwhile, Guehrer completed the sprint in 26.10. Norway's Ingvild Snildal touched third in 26.31 to break her national record of 26.67 set in March.<\/p>\n
World record holder Rafael Munoz Perez snatched the meet record with a 23.37 swimming for Spain. The time fell nearly a second off his global mark of 22.43. Australia's Andrew Lauterstein finished second in 23.44, barely missing his national record of 23.30 set in March. South Africa's Roland Schoeman posted a third-place 23.57. France's Fred Bousquet took fourth in 23.68.<\/p>\n
In another meet-record performance, Russia's Anastasia Zueva captured the women's 100 back in 59.37. The time came up just short of Zueva's national standard of 59.16 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Lizzie Simmonds posted a second-place 1:00.91, while Germany's Daniela Samulski finished third in 1:01.34.<\/p>\n
Russia's Arkady Vyatchanin topped the men's 100 back with a meet-record effort of 54.90. Liam Tancock placed second in 55.27 with Russia's Stanislav Donets finishing third in 55.55.<\/p>\n
Austria's Mirna Jukic came within a second of her European record in the women's 200 breast with a triumphant meet record of 2:23.66. She holds the continental mark with a 2:22.46 from April. Russia's Yuliya Efimova finished second in 2:26.00, while Joline Hostman took third in 2:28.26.<\/p>\n
Trickett picked up the women's 100 free title in 53.27 for the meet record, while Fran Halsall placed second in 53.89. Hanna Maria Seppala of Finland wound up third in 54.41.<\/p>\n
After setting the men's 100 free meet record with a 48.14 in prelims, Fabien Gilot won the finale in 48.33. Russia's Danila Izotov (48.45) and Evgeny Lagunov (48.75) finished second and third.<\/p>\n
Australia's Bronte Barratt cruised to victory in the women's 400 free with a winning time of 4:08.24, while South Africa's Wendy Trott placed second in 4:10.40. Great Britain's Hannah Miley completed the top three in 4:11.52.<\/p>\n
Anthony Pannier followed in the men's 400 free with a top time of 3:52.07, touching out Ross Davenport's second-place 3:52.09. Nicolas Rostoucher claimed third in 3:55.81.<\/p>\n
In the men's 200 breast, Australia's Christian Sprenger emerged with the win in 2:11.89. Teammate Craig Calder placed second in 2:12.43 with Marco Koch grabbing third in 2:12.59.<\/p>\n
South Africa's Kathryn Meaklim threatened Jessica Pengelly's national record of 2:14.00 with a winning time of 2:14.79 in the women's 200 IM. Russia's Daria Belyakina touched second in 2:15.39, while Ida Sandin took third in 2:17.64.<\/p>\n
Lithuania's Vytautas Janusaitis won the men's 200 IM in 2:01.08, while South Africa's Darian Townsend (2:01.44) and Australia's Leith Brodie (2:02.03) completed the podium.<\/p>\n
Australia's Felicity Galvez posted a commanding win with a 2:08.00 in the women's 200 fly. Annika Mehlhorn finished second in 2:11.61 with Petra Granlund taking third in 2:11.64.<\/p>\n
