Touching the wall in 2:07.27, <\/span><b>Belmonte <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was just about a second off of her fourth ranked time in the world in the 200 butterfly (2:06.34) from March. While the time was off of her best from the season, it came in the midst of the heavy program that had the versatile swimmer competing in multiple events over the course of the meet. All told, <\/span><b>Belmonte <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won five events over the course of the meet, including the the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jessica-vall-completes-breaststroke-sweep-in-spain\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">400 freestyle (4:05.57)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/miereia-belmonte-wins-twice-in-two-days-at-spanish-open\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">800 freestyle (8:24.77)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/melani-costa-wins-twice-on-day-four-of-spanish-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1,500 freestyle (16:01.00)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mireia-belmonte-wins-again-albert-puig-tops-tight-200-free-field-in-spain\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">400 IM (4:36.89)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What makes <\/span><b>Belmonte\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 butterfly significant is how wide-open the women\u2019s event is internationally. The 25 year old\u2019s best time is a 2:04.78 from the 2013 World Championships, and back at the 2012 London Olympics one of <\/span><b>Belmonte\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two silver medals came in the 200 butterfly where she finished in 2:05.25 behind China\u2019s <\/span><b>Jiao Liuyang. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, the top time in the world is a 2:05.47, which was recorded by Australia\u2019s <\/span><b>Madeline Groves <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">back in April.
