TOKYO, Japan, June 2. ACCORDING to a press release distributed by Descente in Japan, the company will be selling a limited amount of its Aquaforce Zero swimsuit in Japan.<\/p>\n
The Aquaforce Zero is the non-approved suit in which Ryosuke Irie set the world record in the men's 200 backstroke. Even with the Japanese Swimming Federation beginning to fall in line with the newly-instituted FINA rules, the federation still will ratify Irie's record as a national mark no matter what FINA's decision is regarding its status as a world record. The federation still plans on ratifying all 13 Japanese records from last month's national championships as well, with many of them coming in the Aquaforce Zero.<\/p>\n
The reasoning behind Descente selling a 5,000 unit run of the non-approved suit is to make sure that the product is still available to the high school and junior high school aged swimmers taking aim at those specific records. This occurrence is due to the fact that Japan has decided to allow suits not approved by FINA in federation-sanctioned events until the end of March 2010. Swimmers in these suits, however, will be unable to set national records. However, they will be able to set high school and junior high school records until March 31, 2010.<\/p>\n
