{"id":212998,"date":"2016-07-18T13:39:03","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T20:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=212998"},"modified":"2016-07-18T13:39:03","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T20:39:03","slug":"matt-bowe-joins-indiana-university-coaching-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matt-bowe-joins-indiana-university-coaching-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Bowe Joins Indiana University Coaching Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BLOOMINGTON, Ind. &#8211; <\/strong>Indiana University head swimming coach<strong>\u00a0Ray Looze<\/strong>\u00a0announced the addition of <strong>Matt Bowe<\/strong> to the coaching staff <span data-term=\"goog_1551753227\">on Monday<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Bowe will serve as an assistant swimming coach for both the Indiana men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s teams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Matt Bowe<\/strong> brings valuable international coaching experience to our staff,\u201d Looze remarked.\u00a0\u201cHe is an exceptional technician, innovative and his on deck rapport with swimmers is off the charts.\u00a0\u00a0Matt will coach our sprint males and females in all four strokes. His passion for swimming, his work ethic and his high level of concern for his student-athletes minces identically with our current staff.\u00a0\u00a0He was just too good a fit to pass up.\u00a0\u00a0I look forward to Matt contributing to Indiana&#8217;s pursuit of both Olympic and NCAA excellence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bowe comes to Bloomington from Eastern Michigan University where he served as an assistant swimming coach for the past three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>At Eastern Michigan, Bowe helped coach the men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming teams to a total of 11 individual MAC titles, eight MAC records and 24 school records in his three seasons on the staff. Also during his time with the Eagles, Bowe helped qualify three swimmers for the NCAA Championships, including <strong>Delaney Duncan<\/strong> who earned Honorable-Mention All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>While at EMU, Bowe helped guide the men\u2019s squad to back-to-back MAC titles in 2015 and 2016, while the women\u2019s team went from finishing fourth in 2014 to earning runner-up honors in both 2015 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Bowe served as an assistant coach for Team Europe at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining the staff at Eastern Michigan, Bowe was a coach at Loughborough University, where he coached the US Open champion in the 200 fly, <strong>Tilly Gray<\/strong>. \u00a0Bowe also spent time as an assistant coach at the Great Britain National Centre in Loughborough from 2009-2012, where he coached back-to-back world champion and world record holder in the 50m back, <strong>Liam Tancock<\/strong>, as well as two-time world silver medalist in the 100m free, <strong>Francesca Halsall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Silecroft in Cumbria, UK, Bowe had a tremendous swimming career. As a member of Team Great Britain from 2003-2009, Bowe was the British champion in the 100m fly in 2006. \u00a0In that same year, he claimed podium finishes as a part of the 4x100m medley relay team, earning a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and a bronze medal at the European Championships in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>Bowe was also a finalist in the 100m fly at the World University Games in Belgrade (2009) and Bangkok (2007), and swam as a finalist in the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Bowe graduated from Loughborough University in 2009 with a BSc First Class Honours in Sports Science and Management.
