LOS ALAMITOS, California, May 29. THE Women's Senior National Team started off their three game series with Canada with a strong 13-7 win at the USA Water Polo National Training Center in Los Alamitos, CA. Heather Petri, Annika Dries, Elsie Windes, and Kami Craig scored two goals apiece in the win while Emily Feher went the whole way in net turning aside seven shots.<\/p>\n
Team USA got off to a strong start as Dries opened the game with a power move from two meters to open up a 1-0 lead. They expanded to a 4-1 lead towards the close of the first quarter as Erika Figge skipped home a shot with just nine seconds remaining. The second quarter saw Canada battle back drawing to within one at the 5:27 mark when Krystina Alogbo hit on a backhand for her third goal of the game. Courtney Mathewson connected from way downtown to give Team USA a 5-3 lead with just under four minutes to play in the second quarter and that would be the score at halftime.<\/p>\n
In the third the Red, White, and Blue got back out to a two goal lead when Alison Gregorka scored to go up 6-4. Petri scored from in close at the 4:17 mark after Canada was once again within a score. Leading 7-5, Elsie Windes hit a direct shot from distance to build an 8-5 lead headed to the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n
The fourth got started with Craig bulling her way in down low to score and it was 9-5 game in favor of Team USA. Petri found the cage once more and it was 10-5 and the lead would be too much this time for Canada. Dries closed out the scoring in the fourth and USA came away with the win a 13-7. <\/p>\n
Canada and the USA are in action again on Saturday in Coronado, California as they get the FINA World League Prelims officially underway. Gametime is set for 6pm at the Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n
