OSTROWIEC SWIETOKRZYSKI, Poland, May 22. THE longest standing record in the Polish books fell by the wayside at the Polish Long Course Championships.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, during the men's 800 freestyle relay, Pawel Korzeniowski took down the oldest record in the Polish record books with a 1:46.97 as the 200 free leadoff. That performance cleared Artur Wojdat's 1989 record of 1:47.96 set in Bonn in August.<\/p>\n
Korzeniowski, however, did not swim in the individual men's 200 free final tonight. Konrad Czerniak earned that victory with a 1:48.22. Lukasz Giminski placed second in 1:49.98, while Pawel Rurak finished third in 1:50.11.<\/p>\n
Katarzyna Wilk walked away with the women's 200 free title in 2:00.53 with Mirela Olczak (2:03.74) and Dominika Gawelczyk (2:04.09) rounding out the top three.<\/p>\n
Paulina Zachoszcz matched the national record in the women's 50 breast with a time of 31.93. That swim equaled the 31.93 set by Beata Kaminska with a 2005 set in Debica. Katarzyna Dulian touched second in 32.47, while Ewa Cecieszko placed third in 32.48. Mariusz Winogrodzki followed in the men's 50 breast by lowering his national record with a 28.41. That swim cleared his previous time of 28.48 set in 2005 at the same pool. Dawid Szulich placed second in 28.54, while Przemyslaw Gorczyca took third in 28.72.<\/p>\n
Alicja Tchorz added the women's 100 back national record to her resume after claiming the 200 back standard last night. Tchorz clocked a 1:01.97 during prelims to cut nearly a second from Zuzanna Mazurek's 1:02.77 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Tchorz returned in the evening with another progression of the record when she won in 1:01.52. Klaudia Naziebo (1:02.21) and Karolina Urbanska (1:02.81) finished second and third.<\/p>\n
Radoslaw Kawecki joined Tchorz as a double backstroke record holder as the first Polish man under 55 seconds in the 100 back. He posted a 54.93 to win the title, and wipe out Bartosz Kizierowski's record of 55.04 set at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Last night, Kawecki knocked down the 200 back record as well. Krzysztof Jankiewicz finished second in 55.51, while Adam Mczewski placed third in 56.15.<\/p>\n
Mateusz Matczak crushed the Polish record in the men's 400 IM. He posted a time of 4:14.12 to cut nearly three seconds from Korzeniowski's 2007 record of 4:17.06. Korzeniowski finished second in 4:17.96, while Marcin Ciecelak took third in 4:25.24. Karolina Szczepaniak claimed the women's 400 IM in 4:47.78, while Paula Zukowska (4:50.40) and Katarzyna Zonowska (4:52.06) completed the podium. <\/p>\n
