MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, May 22. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota men's swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Josh Hall (Wausau, Wis.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Minnesota.<\/p>\n
Hall, a senior at Wausau East High School, won the 2009 Wisconsin State High School title in the 100 breaststroke. A Senior Nationals and Junior Nationals qualifier, Hall will provide an immediate boost to Minnesota's breaststroke corps. Gopher Swimming fans got a sneak preview of Hall's ability last November when he finished third in the 200 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 breast at the USA Swimming Minnesota Grand Prix at University Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
Hall also finished fourth in the 200 individual medley at the 2009 Wisconsin State meet and won sectional titles in the 200 IM and 100 breast. He was the state runner-up in the breast as a junior.<\/p>\n
"We are very excited to have Josh join our program," assistant coach Bill Tramel said. "He will join a long history of great breaststrokers at Minnesota. This past year, we graduated the 2009 Big Ten champion in the 100 breast in Colin Lee-To. These will be big shoes to fill but we love his work ethic and feel that he will thrive in our program."<\/p>\n
Hall competes for the Wausau Tide and coach Abby Dunham. Future Gopher teammates Rob Schnitzler and David Hawker both competed for the Tide as well.<\/p>\n
His top times are 55.50 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:02.82 in the 200 breaststroke (short course yards).<\/p>\n
Hall is the sixth member of the 2008-09 Gopher signing class, joining Sean Nesheim (Everett, Wash.), Goran Maljat (Split, Croatia\/Limestone College (S.C.), Michael McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas), Matt Benecki (Chantilly, Va.) and Ben Griggs (Fargo, N.D.). <\/p>\n
