CLUB Wolverine&#39;s Tyler Clary wiped out the oldest meet record on the books with a time of 1:59.14 in the men&#39;s 200 back during the final preliminary session of the Charlotte UltraSwim. The UltraSwim is part of the USA Swimming Grand Prix circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Clary&#39;s performance swim eclipsed the 1:59.62 set by Martin Zubero way back in 1992.  He finished three seconds ahead of Swim Wales&#39; Marco Loughran (2:02.28).<\/p>\n<p>Longhorn&#39;s Aaron Peirsol (2:02.48), Team Ontario&#39;s Matthew Swanston (2:03.04), Max Murphy (2:03.67), North Baltimore&#39;s Nick Thoman (2:04.58), Pat Schirk (2:04.80) and Rockville Montgomery&#39;s Brady Fox (2:04.94) also claimed lanes in the final.  Daytona Beach&#39;s Ryan Lochte scratched from the event.<\/p>\n<p>Minot&#39;s Dagny Knutson kept on trucking this morning, setting up what could be her fourth gold medal of the meet this evening.  Knutson qualified two seconds ahead of the field with a 2:15.19 in the women&#39;s 200 IM.  Fellow prodigy Felicia Lee, 16, of North Baltimore placed second in 2:17.34 with Suburban&#39;s Corrie Clark taking third in 2:17.36.<\/p>\n<p>Julia Smit (2:17.60), North Baltimore&#39;s Elizabeth Pelton (2:17.88), Swim Florida&#39;s Erika Erndl (2:18.05), Bluefish&#39;s Elizabeth Beisel (2:18.65) and Club Natation&#39;s Stephanie Horner (2:19.06) earned the other championship heat spots.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#39;s Thiago Pereira grabbed the top seed in the men&#39;s 200 IM with a 2:04.17, while Club Wolverine&#39;s Alex Vanderkaay will look to provide some competition at the second-seed with a 2:04.82.  Club Wolverine dominated the rest of the championship field as Clary (2:05.24), Charlie Houchin (2:05.93) and Dan Madwed (2:06.66) qualified 3-6-7.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Shanteau of Longhorn (2:05.58), Kyle Cormier (2:05.84) and Lochte (2:06.76) each made finals as well.<\/p>\n<p>Gator&#39;s Stephanie Proud cruised into the top seed in the women&#39;s 200 back with a 2;11.40, while Athens Bulldog Mary DeScenza (2:13.46) and Beisel (2:13.50) will bracket her this evening in finals.<\/p>\n<p>Team Ontario&#39;s Lindsay Seemann (2:14.55), Oakville&#39;s Annie Harrison (2:15.24), FLA Aquatics&#39; Lauren Driscoll (2:16.55), Club Natation&#39;s Barbara Jardin (2:17.43) and Minnesota&#39;s Roxane Akradi (2:17.71) will also vie for the title in the finale.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#39;s 100 free finale will be star-studded with some top names making the championship heat.  Tennessee&#39;s Christine Magnuson paced the preliminary heats with a 55.53, while Club Natation&#39;s Victoria Poon qualified second in 55.84.<\/p>\n<p>Swim Atlanta&#39;s Amanda Weir (55.95), Knutson (56.34), North Baltimore&#39;s Katie Hoff (56.43), Smit (56.61) and Athens Bulldogs Kara Lynn Joyce (56.73) and DeScenza (56.76) picked up the final spots.<\/p>\n<p>While Michael Phelps might still be tinkering with the 50-meter version of the sprint freestyle, his 100 has never been in question.  He&#39;s currently the 100 free American record holder with a 47.51.  He proved his ability in the event by matching Longhorn&#39;s Ricky Berens for the top seed with 49.50s.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#39;s Cullen Jones (49.75) and Fred Bousquet (49.81) also cleared 50 seconds to make finals.  Bryan Lundquist (50.28), Tyler McGill (50.38), Tennessee&#39;s Davis Tarwater (50.43) and Club Wolverine&#39;s Bobby Savulich (50.60) made up the rest of the championship field.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#39;s 1500 free and men&#39;s 800 free are still to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Watch Live on Universal Sports Friday, Saturday and Sunday 6 p.m. ET CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, May 17.
