The Korean Olympic Committee initially enforced its own rule which imposes an additional three year ban from representing the national team after a doping offense. That would have kept Park <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/park-tae-hwan-to-be-kept-out-of-rio-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\">out of the Rio Games<\/a>, but was also considered by many to be a double jeopardy.<\/p>\n<p>Despite an appeal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/south-korea-rejects-plea-by-park-tae-hwan-sticks-by-rio-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\">the committee upheld its ruling<\/a>, keeping Park out of the Games. He took his case to the\u00a0Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Just last week, the CAS ruled in his favor.<\/p>\n<p>The Korean Olympic Committee&#8217;s Secretary General\u00a0<strong>Cho Young-Ho\u00a0<\/strong>told the media, &#8220;We will include Park Tae-Hwan in the list of national athletes who will take part in the Rio Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Once considered the poster boy of South Korean swimming, Park\u00a0claimed one gold (400 freestyle) and one silver (200\u00a0freestyle) at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and won\u00a0two silver medals at the 2012 London Games.<\/p>\n<p>The 26 year old will head to Rio with the world&#8217;s sixth best 400 freestyle and the 13th\u00a0best 200 freestyle this year.<\/p>\n<p>Read the original report from the Daily Mail <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/wires\/afp\/article-3680165\/South-Korea-abide-ruling-swimming-star-Parks-Rio-ban.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Park Tae-Hwan\u00a0will be allowed to compete in Rio after an uncertain few\u00a0months of appeals and pleas.
