OSTRAVA, Czech Republic, May 16. GREEK's Angeliki Exarchou crushed her national record in the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:27.39 during the first night of long course meter swimming at the Czech Grand Prix. <\/p>\n
Her performance wiped out the 2:29.44 national mark she set back in 2005. She swam the time pretty much alone with Tanja Smid placing a distant second in 2:34.40. Hana Palouskova wrapped up third in 2:35.51.<\/p>\n
Pawel Dembniak opened the evening with a touch out win over Martin Sedlak, 26.00 to 26.08, in the men's 50 fly. Bohumir Sraut completed the podium with a third-place 26.29. In the women's sprint fly event, Katerina Nebelova won in 28.57 with Orsolya Tompa (28.70) and Aneta Pechancova (28.97) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n
More sprint action took place with the backstroke 50s up next. Martin Badura claimed the men's title in 27.03 with Martin Slechta (27.59) and Ondrej Palatka (28.27) finishing second and third. Klara Vaclavikova touched first in the women's race with a 29.82. Martha Matsa finished second in 29.96 with Evelyn Verraszto taking third in 30.12.<\/p>\n
Jiri Vlcek followed in the men's 200 breast with a winning time of 2:22.91. Jan Schoppel took second in 2:24.27 with Ivan Capan placing third in 2:26.67.<\/p>\n
Balazs Zamo clinched the men's 100 back crown with a 58.58, while Badura wound up second in 59.20. Palatka picked up his second third-place finish with a 59.80. Vaclavikova claimed her second backstroke title with a 100-meter time of 1:07.45. Zsuzsanna Jaszo took second in 1:08.27, while Magda Okurkova finished third in 1:08.82.<\/p>\n
In the 200 fly events, Zsombor Szana earned the men's title in 2:03.68 with Bence Borzsa (2:04.97) and Batka Balint (2:05.50) touching second and third. Tompa turned her second-place finish in the 50 into a victory in the 200 with a 2:18.46. Andrea Balasova touched second in 2:21.85 with Lenka Lukasova taking third in 2:24.79.<\/p>\n
Next, Hrvoje Capan snared the men's 100 free win with a 52.48, while Michael Rokicki (52.66) and Martin Tomasek (52.89) claimed second and third. Verraszto returned victorious in the women's 100 free with a 56.11. Agnes Bucz placed a distant second in 58.56, while Hana Lefnerova took third in 59.07.<\/p>\n
The 200 IMs concluded the evening. Sasa Impric won the men's going away in 2:07.78. Jakub Schwarz placed second in 2:12.24, while Vlcek picked up his second medal of the day with a third-place 2:12.39. Verraszto gave herself a third medal, second of the gold variety, with back-to-back wins when she hit the wall in 2:15.21 in the women's 200 IM for the win.
