CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, May 16. CANADIAN teams finished 1-2 in the women's 4X100 freestyle relay and Amanda Reason of Windsor, Ont., added another gold with a national age group record in the women's 100-metre breaststroke on Friday at the Charlotte UltraSwim swimming competition.<\/p>\n
In the women's 4X100 freestyle relay, Montreal's Club de natation des Piscine du Parc Olympique de Montr\u00e9al won the gold in three minutes and 48.75 seconds. The CNPPO swimmers were Victoria Poon, Barbara Jardin, Genevi\u00e8ve Saumur and Stephanie Horner. Poon, Saumur and Horner were on last year`s Olympic team.<\/p>\n
The Montreal swimmers had a rough trip to North Carolina leaving Thursday night and arriving only Friday morning, hours before the start of the morning preliminaries as poor weather affected the team's travel.<\/p>\n
\u2018'The girls had every reason to not win the race,'' said Canadian coach Benoit Lebrun of Montreal. \u2018'They got barely three hours sleep overnight. But they were able to put that aside and produce a very solid swim. They responded very well to the challenge.''<\/p>\n
Team Ontario finished second with Hilary Bell and Paige Schultz, both of Toronto, Hayley Nell of London and Reason in 3:49.91. The Michigan Wolverines were third in 3:52.00<\/p>\n
In the women's 100 breaststroke, the 15-year-old Reason clocked one minute and 08.80 seconds for the victory to eclipse the previous 15-17 age group mark of 1:08.86 set in 1988 by Allison Higson. Corrie Clark of the U.S., the leader at the turn, was second in 1:09.63 and Abby MacGregor of the U.S., was third in 1:09.64. Bell was seventh in 1:12.04.<\/p>\n
In the men's 4X100 freestyle relay, Team Ontario won the bronze with Joe Bartoch of London, Andrew Ford of Guelph and Brandon Kingston and Matthew Swanston, both of Newmarket.<\/p>\n
Lindsay Seeman of Newmarket, Ont., a bronze medallist Thursday in the 800 freestyle, posted fourth place finishes Friday in both the 200 freestyle and 400 individual medley. Bell also reached a second final placing eighth in the 200 freestyle. <\/p>\n
Four Canadians were in the men's 100 breaststroke final with Mathieu Bois of Montreal placing fifth, Warren Barnes of Pickering, Ont., sixth, Bryn Jones of Oakville, Ont., seventh and Marco Monaco of Toronto eighth.<\/p>\n
Ford was fifth in the men's 400 IM, Poon seventh in the women's 100 butterfly and Thomas Kindler of Montreal eighth in the men's 100 butterfly,<\/p>\n
