Wingate, N.C.—-Wingate University men’s swimming alum Kevin Hennessy<\/strong> (’10) is the newest member of the Wingate Aquatics staff, Bulldog head men’s and women’s swimming coach Kirk Sanocki<\/strong> announces. He joins the Wingate Aquatics staff after spending the last six years with the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins in Virginia. Hennessy will assist in all aspects of the Wingate University swimming program and will serve as the lead coach for the Aqua-Dog club team.<\/p>\n

“I’m very excited to have Kevin back at Wingate,” Sanocki says. “Growing up the son of a coach has given Kevin tremendous insight on how a complete aquatic system functions. This experience will be very valuable as we continue to improve our overall level of excellence. We will utilize his experience in the areas of recruiting, coaching and mentoring all of our swimmers in the WU Swim Family. He was an excellent student and athlete, as well as an outstanding ambassador for Wingate University during his time as an undergraduate.”<\/p>\n

During his time at Wingate, Hennessy was a four-year letter winner for the Bulldog men’s swimming team. He was an All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference (BMC) swimmer and a Scholar All-American, as named by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). Hennessy earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology with a Psychology minor during his time at Wingate.<\/p>\n

Hennessy began coaching with the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins (CGBD) on a part-time basis in 2008 before his elevation to full-time status in 2010. In his time with the CGBD, he has served as assistant head age-group coach, head age-group coach and most recently as the head senior coach since 2013.<\/p>\n

During his time with the CGBD, Hennessy’s swimmers consistently placed at the top of their region and state meets. His swimmers have set numerous team records and Virginia Swimming records. They have gone on to qualify for Sectionals and Junior Nationals. Hennessy also assisted with the development and training of the CGBD Olympic Trials qualifiers in 2012 and 2016. He also has experience coaching summer league teams and high school teams.<\/p>\n
