INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, May 13. FOUR more divers have earned spots on USA Diving's 2009 World Championships team as synchronized teams for the July competition have been chosen following a two-day selection camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Nine divers had already made the team on individual events in February.<\/p>\n
USA's synchronized teams for the July 17-25 World Championships in Rome will be Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) and Ariel Rittenhouse (Santa Cruz, Calif.) in women's 3-meter synchro, Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) and Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) in men's 3-meter synchro, Haley Ishimatsu (Seal Beach, Calif.) and Mary Beth Dunnichay (Elwood, Ind.) in women's 10-meter synchro and David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.) in men's 10-meter synchro. Rittenhouse, Dumais, Ishimatsu and Boudia were also selected to compete individually.<\/p>\n
Boudia and Finchum, who were fifth at the Beijing Olympics, won gold at last week's AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix. The U.S. also got Grand Prix gold from three-time Olympian Dumais and 16-year-old up-and-comer Ipsen, whose first competition together was less than three weeks ago when they won a national title on April 25 before taking gold at the Grand Prix last week. Both women's synchro teams represented the U.S. in Beijing, with Bryant\/Rittenhouse placing fourth and Ishimatsu\/Dunnichay finishing fifth.<\/p>\n
Following the conclusion of the synchro selection camp, USA Diving also announced its coaching staff for the 2009 World Championships. Hongping Li of the Trojan Dive Club was selected as the head coach, and Georgia Diving's Dan Laak was named the assistant coach. Miami Diving's Randy Ableman, Indiana Diving's Jeff Huber, and Longhorn Aquatics' Matt Scoggin round out the official coaching staff. <\/p>\n
