The Olympic open water events that will take place off of Copacabana Beach feature several swimmers in each race capable of winning gold.<\/p>\n

The 10-kilometer open water race was introduced to the Olympic lineup in 2008. Since then, the sport\u2019s popularity has grown exponentially. And with popularity comes stiffer competition.<\/p>\n

In fact, Catherine Vogt, head coach of Team USA\u2019s Olympic open water team, believes that no fewer than six of the 10 ath- letes on both the women\u2019s and men\u2019s side who had qualified for the Olympics based on last summer\u2019s World Championships re- sults could be in medal contention at Rio.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
