Michael Phelps<\/strong> qualified for his third individual event in Rio by winning the men\u2019s 100 fly.\u00a0Phelps, who was fourth at the 50, stopped the clock at 51.00.<\/p>\n

His time ranks him second in the world this year. This is his third consecutive Trials win in this event as he will try to defend his Olympic title for the fourth time.<\/p>\n

The 22-time Olympic medalist\u00a0finished two tenths ahead of runner-up Tom Shields<\/strong>. The two will represent Team USA in both butterfly events in Rio.<\/p>\n

He said there wasn’t a chance he would lose his last race on American soil.\u00a0He told\u00a0the media after his race about how thankful he is for all the support he’s had over the years.<\/p>\n

He talked to the media about how this is officially his last Olympics and how\u00a0he wants to change the sport of swimming.<\/p>\n

Phelps knows that he will need to be faster to medal in Rio and is excited to get back to work in the next few weeks.\u00a0He also revealed that he may time trial the 100 free tomorrow.<\/p>\n
