Cullen Jones\u00a0<\/strong>blasted to the top of the second semifinal with a 21.93. That swim was third overall tonight.\u00a0Jimmy Feigen\u00a0<\/strong>put up the fourth best time of the semifinals with a 22.02.<\/p>\nDressel could not quite summon this morning’s speed as he was fifth in 22.04.<\/p>\n
Swimming in lane one, Dillon Vivra<\/strong>\u00a0got third in the first semifinal with a 22.06. He’ll return in sixth.<\/p>\nMichael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>continued to bounce back from his 100 freestyle swim to finish seventh in 22.11.<\/p>\nWilliam Copeland\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Josh Sneider<\/strong>\u00a0both finished in 22.13, as the eighth fastest swimmers. The 30 and 28 year old veterans will have to swim off for the final spot in tomorrow night’s final.<\/p>\nPaul Powers\u00a0<\/strong>of Michigan finished in 22.17, out of the running for a third swim.<\/p>\nMichael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>(22.22),\u00a0Bowen Becker\u00a0<\/strong>(22.31)\u00a0Payton Sorenson\u00a0<\/strong>(22.37),\u00a0Ryan Held\u00a0<\/strong>(22.54), and\u00a0David Williams\u00a0<\/strong>(22.66) also swam in tonight’s semifinals.<\/p>\nJohn Murray\u00a0<\/strong>was disqualified for a false start.<\/p>\nSWIM OFF:\u00a0<\/strong>Schneider won the swim off with a significant improvement from his swim done 90 minutes earlier. He touched in 21.84. That was the third fastest time of the night, keeping his Olympic dream alive. Copeland finished in 22.09, also faster than his earlier swim. Women’s 200 Breaststroke Semifinals<\/strong><\/p>\nShort course American record holder\u00a0Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>jumped out to a quick start at the 50 and led by .71 at the halfway mark.\u00a02012 Olympian in this event\u00a0Micah Lawrence\u00a0<\/strong>entered with a personal best time that was over two seconds better than anybody else in the field. At the halfway mark Lawrence started to move up and cut King’s lead down by another three tenths at the 150.<\/p>\nMolly Hannis\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in the 100 breaststroke earlier in the week. Tonight she charged home in the final 50 meters.<\/p>\nWhen they came into the final wall, it was King still in front with a 2:24.08.\u00a0That will put two swims on NCAA Swimmer of the Year’s schedule in Rio after she was the top finisher in Tuesday’s 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n
Hannis got her hands to the wall second for an Olympic berth with a 2:24.39.<\/p>\n
In her third final of the week\u00a0Bethany Galat\u00a0<\/strong>also put together a stellar final 75 meters, but finished third for the second time this week with a 2:24.52.<\/p>\nLawrence wound up fourth with a 2:24.93.<\/p>\n
Melanie Margalis<\/strong> already has a trip to Rio after a second place 200 IM. Men’s 200 Backstroke Final<\/strong><\/p>\nJacob Pebley\u00a0<\/strong>was first to the 50 in\u00a027.04, just .02 ahead of\u00a0Ryan Murphy.\u00a0<\/strong>Murphy took over the lead at the 100 meter mark and shot ahead in the final 100 meters to touch in the second fastest time in the world this year with a 1:53.95.<\/p>\nPebley bumped into the lane rope for much of the race but still had enough to join his Cal teammate in Rio as he finished in 1:54.77.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Backstroke Semifinals<\/strong><\/p>\nMaya DiRado\u00a0<\/strong>already has two events on her schedule for Rio. Tonight she was out in 1:02.87 and finished in 2:08.14.<\/p>\nWorld record holder\u00a0Missy Franklin\u00a0<\/strong>won the second semifinal in 2:08.63 for the second seed overall.<\/p>\nAmy Bilquist\u00a0<\/strong>led the second semifinal at the halfway mark. After scratching the 100 freestyle to focus on this event, she earned a lane in tomorrow night’s final with a third seeded 2:09.68. That was a personal best by over two seconds.<\/p>\nTexas A&M’s\u00a0Lisa Bratton\u00a0<\/strong>will return to finals in fourth with a 2:09.79.<\/p>\nSwimming with a sprained and fractured finger,\u00a0Elizabeth Beisel\u00a0<\/strong>took off her finger tape just before jumping in the water. She swam tough with a fifth seed earning 2:09.81.<\/p>\nBridgette Alexander\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 2:09.83 for sixth.\u00a0NCAA Champion\u00a0Danielle Galyer <\/strong>touched in\u00a02:09.88, just off her lifetime best and faster than her prelims swim. Men’s 200 IM Finals<\/strong><\/p>\nThe men’s 200 IM race has been one of the most anticipated of the week after Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ryan Lochte\u00a0<\/strong>have each scratched events. The show did not disappoint.<\/p>\nWhile Phelps lead at each wall, the two turned in synch and well ahead of the field after the breaststroke. Phelps pulled further ahead in the final few strokes to touch first in 1:55.91, the second fastest time in the world this year. The world record holder\u00a0finished second tonight in 1:56.22, the world’s third best this year. With that, the rivalry will head to Rio.<\/p>\n
David Nolan\u00a0<\/strong>was challenging the duo at the halfway mark but wound up third in 1:59.09.<\/p>\nGeorgia teammates\u00a0Gunnar Bentz\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Jay Litherland\u00a0<\/strong>were the only other swimmers under two minutes in 1:59.36 and 1:59.91.<\/p>\nAbrahm Devine\u00a0<\/strong>(2:00.15),\u00a0Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>(2:00.27) and\u00a0Austin Surhoff\u00a0<\/strong>(2:00.33) also competed in tonight’s final.<\/p>\n![\"Screen](\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-01-at-8.48.21-PM-700x386.png\")

Women’s 100 Freestyle Final<\/strong><\/p>\nIn tonight’s 100 freestyle final\u00a0Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>was .07 ahead of\u00a0Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>at the 50 meter mark and the two touched in first and second\u00a0at the finish. Weitzeil became a first time Olympian in 53.28. That time is a new U.S. Open record, .02 faster than Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>swam in 2008.<\/p>\nAfter also skipping college competition this year, Manuel is also finally Rio bound with an individual swim and a spot on the 400 freestyle relay. Tonight she posted a 53.52.<\/p>\n
American record holder\u00a0Amanda Weir\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 53.75, good for a spot on the relay.\u00a0Lia Neal\u00a0<\/strong>was a 2012 Olympian on this relay. She’ll join her Stanford teammate Manuel with a fourth place finish of 53.77.<\/p>\nAllison Schmitt\u00a0<\/strong>touched fifth in 53.87.\u00a0Dana Vollmer\u00a0<\/strong>finished second earlier in the week in the 100 butterfly. Tonight she was sixth in 53.92. Men’s 100 Butterfly Semifinal<\/strong><\/p>\nSeth Stubblefield\u00a0<\/strong>of Cal swam the fastest time of tonight’s 100 butterfly semifinals in 51.26. That time became the fourth fastest in the world this year.<\/p>\nTwenty five year old\u00a0Tim Phillips\u00a0<\/strong>of SwimMAC won the first semifinal in 51.28. That swim was the fourth fastest in the world this year until the second semifinal dove in and Stubblefield took over the spot.<\/p>\nAfter already finishing second in the 200 butterfly\u00a0Tom Shields <\/strong>was third\u00a0overall in 51.49, in his better butterfly distance. Tying him for that third spot is\u00a0Jack Conger.<\/p>\nMatthew Josa\u00a0<\/strong>held the top seed coming out of prelims. He’ll enter finals in fifth with a 51.72.<\/p>\nLess than a half hour after winning the 200 IM,\u00a0Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 51.83. He accomplished the goal- securing a lane in tomorrow’s finals.<\/p>\nWill Glass\u00a0<\/strong>(52.83) and\u00a0Giles Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(52.90) also secured lanes in finals as the seventh and eighth seeds.<\/p>\nAndrew Liang<\/strong> (53.05) and\u00a0Kyler Vanswol\u00a0<\/strong>(53.14) finished ninth and tenth.<\/p>\nAndrew Sansoucie\u00a0<\/strong>(53.16),\u00a0Carl Weigley\u00a0<\/strong>(53.20),\u00a0Michael Miller\u00a0<\/strong>(53.40), and\u00a0Andrew Whitaker\u00a0<\/strong>(53.53) were 11th though 14th.<\/p>\nSeventeen year old\u00a0Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 53.67 to finish 15th.
