That time moves him to eighth in the world this year.\u00a0Dressel will return in first tonight.<\/p>\n<p>2000 Olympic gold medalist and\u00a0London Games\u00a0fifth place finisher\u00a0<strong>Anthony Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>powered to a 21.80.<\/p>\n<p>2012 silver medalist\u00a0<strong>Cullen Jones <\/strong>stopped the clock in 21.84 for the third spot.\u00a0<strong>Nathan Adrian\u00a0<\/strong>entered with the fastest time of any American this season after posting a 21.68 last month. This morning the American record holder cruised to a 21.96 for the fourth seed.<\/p>\n<p>In 22.11\u00a0<strong>Jimmy Feigen\u00a0<\/strong>finished fifth.\u00a0Michigan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paul Powers\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 22.22 for the sixth spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>fell short of a second swim in the 100 freestyle. In today&#8217;s 50 he posted a 22.24 for the seventh seed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>William Copeland\u00a0<\/strong>(22.25) will be eighth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 22.27, the fourth fastest time for a 17-18 year old. At the halfway mark she posted a 4:05.43. She finished in 8:10.91, well ahead of anybody else.\u00a0Swimming under 8:14.10 made her the owner of all ten of the fastest times in this event. This morning&#8217;s swim was the third fastest in history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>entered today&#8217;s prelims with the world&#8217;s tenth fastest time of 8:24.87. Swimming in the first circle seeded heat, Smith was out in 4:10.57, ahead of her heat at the halfway mark. She finished in 8:21.64. That swim moves her to the fifth fastest time in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ashley Twitchell\u00a0<\/strong>posted an 8:28.96 for the third spot.\u00a0<strong>Haley Anderson\u00a0<\/strong>swam an 8:30.96 to potentially add to her Open Water schedule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lindsey Vrooman\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 8:31.53 for the fifth spot in tomorrow night&#8217;s final.\u00a0<strong>Cierra Runge\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 8:31.59 for sixth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephanie Peacock\u00a0<\/strong>(8:31.81) and\u00a0<strong>Sierra Schmidt\u00a0<\/strong>(8:32.46) have also likely earned lanes in tomorrow night&#8217;s final, pending the results of the B flight heats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Becca Mann\u00a0<\/strong>has been as fast as 8:24.49 this year, good for the world&#8217;s ninth best swim. That is the top seed for finals.<\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0a second place finish in the 200 butterfly,\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>dove into his stronger event, the 100, today. He swam a 51.72 for the second seed for semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seth Stubblefield\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 51.70 for the third spot, just ahead of\u00a0<strong>Jack Conger\u00a0<\/strong>with a 51.80.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>arrived in Omaha with the world&#8217;s tenth best time this year of 51.65. She entered with the world&#8217;s 13th fastest time of 2:08.77. This morning the 2012 gold medalist clocked a 2:09.69.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maya DiRado\u00a0<\/strong>hopped in the pool this morning with two events already on her schedule in Rio and the world&#8217;s ninth best time of 2:08.19 in this event.
