This morning he clocked a 48.43.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Held\u00a0<\/strong>skyrocketed upward to become the 13th fastest American 100 freestyler in history. He was seeded with a 49.17 but posted a 48.46. That time puts him just outside the world&#8217;s top 20 this year.<\/p>\n<p>NCAA star\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>topped the first circle seeded heat in 48.69, a new personal best time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anthony Ervin\u00a0<\/strong>put together a 48.76 to win heat nine and earn the fourth seed.\u00a02012 Olympian\u00a0<strong>Jimmy Feigen\u00a0<\/strong>was on Dressel&#8217;s heels the whole way finishing second in 49.03, the fifth seed headed into semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh off his Olympic qualifying 200 freestyle\u00a0<strong>Ryan Lochte\u00a0<\/strong>took the sixth spot in 49.13, just .01 ahead of incoming Florida Gator\u00a0<strong>Maxime Rooney\u00a0<\/strong>(49.14).<\/p>\n<p>In 49.16\u00a0<strong>William Copeland\u00a0<\/strong>took the eighth spot. She cruised through the first 100 meters and came home appearing to take the top seed with a 2:08.29.<\/p>\n<p>After the finish, it was announced that she was disqualified.After a protest, and a review of video evidence that DQ was quickly over turned. Officials had thought she pushed off her turn onto her back.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Bulldawg\u00a0<strong>Hali Flickinger\u00a0<\/strong>led the first circle seeded heat through the halfway mark. The World University Games bronze medalist touched in 2:09.20 to win her heat and officially take the second seed.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen year old\u00a0<strong>Cassidy Bayer\u00a0<\/strong>was out strong and hung on for second in that heat. He swam on world record pace through the 150 meter mark and topped prelims with a 2:08.54. That is the sixth best time in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will Licon\u00a0<\/strong>was out quickly and won the first circle seeded heat in 2:09.43. That time is now the tenth\u00a0fastest in the world this year.\u00a0<strong>Nic Fink\u00a0<\/strong>was also strong with a 2:10.10, just off his season&#8217;s best 2:09.89.<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Prenot\u00a0<\/strong>was a World University Games gold medalist last summer. He swam a superb final 50 for a final time of 2:10.68 and the fourth spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>charged to the lead in the first half of the second circle seed.
